I think the early warning would be awesome - if you know your house has a chance of being leveled, you could at least get your most precious items - baby books, photo albums, computer, passports, financial documents. Survivors are always pictured at their collapsed houses saying in disbelief, "There's nothing left." It would be such a gift to let them get that one essential thing before the disaster. I am trying to imagine such a warning being given in San Francisco. Would everyone just head for Golden Gate park??? I would sure as hell not want to be on one of the bridges leaving town... Imagine if radio and tv announcements came out in Los Angeles that "in approximately 10 hours, scientists are predicting a major earthquake somewhere near LA."
