I'm glad someone finally figured out what I've known for some time. I endured a long and severe meth addiction before going into recovery. Due to severe trauma that I experienced just before the addiction (my addiction was a form of self medicating to deal with the trauma), I have extreme PTSD. Once in recovery, I confirmed that diagnosis as well as having dissociative amnesia. Basically, there is very little I remember about my addiction, including putting the drug in my body, what being high even feels like, etc... Since the amnesia started, I no longer have any cravings, triggers, euphoric recall, or the vaguest desire to do the drug now. The only curiosity I have is when I wonder what it is that I've forgotten. I'm still me but I feel like me before addiction. Having amnesia erase my memories surrounding the drug has proved a blessing and I wish all my friends in recovery could have the same advantages that I enjoy.
