Why is this any different to Pavlovian conditioning? The falsely calling monkeys may only 'understand' the call to be 'everybody run' rather than something more specific like 'hey, a predator'. It's the researchers who are applying the meaning to the call.

Heck, my CAT lies to me in order to get food. Deliberately LIES to me to get food. I have no trouble what-so-ever believing monkeys do this too.

They're not following in our footsteps... they're co-evolving with us.

I'd like to point out that cats know how birds react to them - that is why they deceive them by creeping slowly and hiding until they get within striking distance.

It may not be 'deception' as we commonly think of it, but it follows the same principles, presenting a false reality of no cat creeping up while fully intending on making a meal out of whatever they're sneakin on.
