He was a space medicine scientist, an inventor and a very clever man  who knew a great deal about what the USSR was doing during those years.  He was regularly interviewed by the CIA and another Intel agency, so the US (at least our presidents) also knew what the USSR was up to during those years.   The recording mentioned above may never have been released but you may rest assured that the US knew about this item as well.</description>
