The orangutans are using a tool or their hands for a communicative purpose, not as a musical instrument, even though the result resembles a simple musical instrument that humans sometimes make. The apes aren't humming a tune at predators with an intent to amuse or enchant them. They're trying to make the predators go away with an intent to scare them or intimidate them, possibly even deceive the nasty critters about their own orangutangy size. That's rather different, wouldn't you say?

Orangutans are critically endangered in the wild because of rapid deforestation and the expansion of palm oil plantations.

If nothing is done to protect these majestic creatures, they could be extinct in just a few years.
