Maybe it's time to start making the helmets less safe for the players. They feel invincible since the helmets are so safe. If they were less safe there might be less vicious hits because the person inflicting the hit would know there was more of chance that they themselves would be hurt.

That's why they get paid the big bucks. like anything else in this world, it's risk versus benefit. Sorry kid.

Justin Morneau of the Minnesota Twins baseball team has been out for more than two months for a concussion he suffered while sliding in to second. It's good that athletes are finally getting some protection. The game should definitely be second to the health of its players.

There are two ways to use ones brain in colleges:
either learn
or "play" football.

I remember a similar debate from 60ties to 70ties
in Europe about boxing.
As a amateur sport it almost died out since then,
but they import boxers from eastern Europe now.
Regards
Georg

I don't care an iota about football.

That said, if they wanted to do something about brain injury, there could be more done to study recovery in those who already have brain injuries, and for football specifically, they could administer simple cognitive tests, starting with a baseline, and if a player showed significant decrease in cognitive skills at a certain point, they could be removed from play and told to rest for a period of time, periodically being tested until they recover to a baseline score, and in the meantime referred to a neurologist for care.

Have they established precisely which functions decline in ability?
