$40 billion is 1 years profit (outside of a worldwide recession…), or approximately 6 weeks turnover for BP. Amortized over, say, five years, it would barely notice the cost. It’s selling assets to keep it’s dividends, and thus its share price up.

Learned OUR lesson? You need look not further than BP’s interests in Africa. In the Niger Delta, the amount of oil spilled every year equals that of the Valdez spill.
Or does it only count when it’s close to home? We are being held hostage by Big Oil while they continue to destroy the environment. It’s not OUR lesson to be learned. What viable, affordable alternatives are we being offered?

We can only ignore this issue for so long. It WILL affect Europe and eventually the Americas if left to fester. It IS affecting Africa NOW.
