A friend of mine developed a device designed specifically for this application after many of his fellow soldiers suffered from mortal wounds to the face/brain. They will withstand a point blank 44 magnum blast to the face. He has been in talks with our Military officials, and some have slowly adopted the system. Some of our Military will not let our soldiers purchase these and wear them of their own volition. Please visit MTek's website, spread the word, and/or friend them on Facebook. dub dub dub dot mtekweaponsystems dot com

This seems quite obvious now when you say it. Of course you have to wear the best protective shields when doing dangerous jobs.

if this goes farther you could have an electronic display that can be customized or turned off and in theory could be like a video game and measuring the soilder's movement of the gun will create a cross hair in the display.

I can see it now, the shield would normally be retracted, half into each side of the helmet. When an explosion is detected, the shield would snap into position sort of like what an air bag does in a car crash.

The soldier would just have to be careful not to be picking his nose or sticking out his tongue at the time.
