Well, if we’re going to nitpick grammar, I would correct Nick Drake and tell him that it should be “Fish appear to have swum” not “Fish appeared to have swam…” The appearance of swimming is in the present, wheareas the swimming itself was in the past.

I do hate the term “sub-Saharan”, but I guess there’s no prefix that means “south of”.

As with anything else, if people dont know the answer they just make one up. A ridiculous explanation is often accepted if no one offers an alternative. Thats why I love the scientific community. If someone offers a ridiculous explanation, their peers cut them to shreds!

how can this be “new”? geologists have known for decades the Sahara wasn’t always a desert.

Look – i get that research in ancient human migration is a worthy avenue of research. and it is indeed an interesting article.

But don’t tell me you never knew that desert wasn’t always a desert.

When explaing Sub-Saharan, I think you mean “south of the Sahara,” not “below the Sahara.”
