That’s a good point, and the researchers do point that out: One exception to this idea is older people who walk slowly because they’ve always walked slowly. So what you’d really want to find out is not just a one-time measure of somebody’s walking speed, but a few measurements scattered across the years to see if a person is slowing down over time.

I dunno. Some things do get better as you age. The older I get, the faster I used to be.
