Would you also consider books to be "dangerous for children"? After all, with all this Harry Potter attention, it seems that there are children, as well as adults, who obsessively pick up a book and read it all the way through, not able to put the book down because they want to find out what happens next in the story. And these books are rather large - certainly larger than books I had when I was growing up (Harry Potter books can exceed 700 pages).

Or is it that you never realized that video games are just 1 medium out of many, which can contribute to "addictive-like" behavior, including, you guessed it, books, newspapers, and other non-electronic mediums?

Before you blame a medium in which you obviously don't understand (video games), realize there are numerous other mediums out there that can produce similar behavior, including mediums you may happen to like and enjoy.
