Thank God for "Big Pharma". Let's hope that they continue to make profits and fund the developement of new pharmaceuticals. Without them, it's back to the witch doctor.

Science is making great strides. These are exciting times. The thought that we might end up with a cure for PD and AD is just fantastic. Thanks to 23andMe for moving things along with such a large cohort. Sure, someone makes a profit somewhere, but isn't that what Western Capitalism is all about?

So, consumers pay for the testing, and data is shared with big pharma. Big pharma then uses that data to make drugs and charges the consumers for said drugs. Looks good for big pharma, who gets us to pay for their research.

Are there going to be big discounts for these consumer-researched drugs, or is big pharma going to double their profits?

Is there any cost-sharing at all going on between the testing companies and big pharma? These tests should be a lot less expensive for the consumer if the data collected is going to be used for profit.
