Just want to point out that the wheat genome has not actually been sequenced yet. In many ways it is even more challenging that potato: three copies of related genomes to potato’s two and a total genome that is 20 times the size of potato.

I’ve always said that this “genetically modified” food that the “tree huggers” are bitching about is merely regular food with the process of crossbreeding and interbreeding sped up and I believe this article helps back that up.

Fascinating. So perhaps it was the farmers who created the sickly potatoes that then wiped them out. Kind of like how they operate today, but with pesticides and antibiotics to help stave off catastrophe.
