Well it seems to me since this drug has been used 10-15 years for the treatment of skin cancer, there must be thousands of patients out there. Skin cancer is mainly manifested in older people, i.e., people who might also be prone to Alzheimer's disease. why not check on these people to see who might be Alzheimer prone and whether there was also a coresponding improvement for this disease as well as the skin cancer that was treated??

@Shirley

We don't actually know if it's effective in humans yet and we don't know what the effective does would be if it does work. That's what human trials will tell us. Scientific American has a good post on this exact topic http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/2012/02/13/patients-clamor-for-alzheimers-drug-that-shows-promise-in-mice/

The drug is being used for Skin Cancer...so it is safe for humans...YES? Then why not try it on AD patients....
Should we develop skin cancer???? Get the drug....then cure both problems at the same time....

While this seems like a very exciting discovery, it would be nice if other scientists could replicate its seemingly to-good-to-be-true results themselves in relevant mouse populations. Time should not be an issue given that improvements were alleged to be so dramatic and immediate.
