AAS Post #3: Slackers

‘Man oh man, have I been busy. Today has been insane. I got no sleep last night (OK, that’s an exaggeration; I got two hours) because my air conditioner attacked my sinuses. After the LIGO press conference I blogged about in Part 2, I had to sit at our exhibit booth for a while. That’s always fun. First, I get to sit, and second, I can just wait for friends to come to me. Makes things easier.

There was plenty of news today, and I’ll try to blog about it after dinner tonight (busy busy). But I attended a talk by the fantabulous Pamela Gay of Slacker Astronomy. She gave a talk about blogging and podcasting, and she showed this slide:

You’re not seeing double! Pamela shilled my stuff relentlessly, which is one of the many reasons she is so wonderful. Her talk was really good, and maybe we’ll get some more astrobloggers out of it.

After I finish this entry, I’m going to a press reception which will be fun, and I hope I’ll have time to write up a few paragraphs afterwards about the news from today. Tomorrow looks like it’ll be even better, too. The pictures from the various space telescopes are really great, and I’ll have thumbnails and links up ASAP.’

I love your blog, it’s really great stuff. Would it be possible for you to include the full post in your RSS feed again? Thanks.

Oh I think you might be getting into trouble Phil. Pamela’s been having a bad week and there you are posting a photo of her with glowing red eyes. Oh I know she had the LIGO upgrade contacts on.

“astroblogging”…hmmmm, not a bad coin word. So many new cyber acronyms and buzz words to keep up with now-a-days. When I started blogging back in 2004 (a long time in relation to the evolution of the infosphere) I stuck with the space theme. It is great to read that this “specialty” is being discussed at your ongoing conference.

You should put the air conditioner on a leash, or something.

When it comes to your sinuses, you know, you should get enough sleep. Because if you get to little your immune system wears out, and you’ll get an infection before you know it. Which is no fun when you’re at a conference.

in addition to the full posts in RSS (and pictures too, if I’m gonna go for it ;) ), would it be possible to make the title of the rss clickable to the site? Currently in firefox with the sage extension as my newsreader, I get a reference to my local sage file, not http://www.badastronomy.com/bablog/ I don’t know if its an RSS reader issue or the feed. Thanks!

^ apologies for the former, now back to the topic :)

Excellent posts and thank YOU so much for the pictures and explanations, I can’t wait to show my kids, the latest! Between you and the Astronomy Picture of the Day Archive my space pictures directory is increasing exponentially and its wonderful!

    Sincerely,
    MissM
