OK, so I do have a sec to write something while a CD burns in my PC.
A while back, I plugged a free e-book called "What’s Up 2006", put together by a team led by my buddy Fraser Cain of Universe Today.
He has just announced that a hardcopy version is now available. It’s $20, which is pretty good for a big, cool book like this. The PDF e-version is still free, but who doesn’t want a nice, solid book to look pretty on their shelf?

Mine is ordered! I’m glad it came out in printed form, that is too good not to be printed. I hate reading stuff on the screen (not counting BadAstronomy of course!) since my attention span decreases to a very small level.
“eBooks” will never fly if you ask me.

Quoted from the “product details”….
Product Details:
Printed: 409 pages, 8.5″ x 11.0″, perfect binding, black and white interior ink.
What is “perfect binding”? Are there books with “imperfect” binding???

RAF,
Cribbed from the InstantPublisher website:
‘This binding is sometimes called a “soft cover”, which is similar to a paperback novel binding.’
It’s the same type of binding you see on magazines like Nature that have writing on the spine; I think it’s called “perfect” to distinguish it from magazines bound with staples.
A true hardback would of course cost more…
As one who helped out Tammy on the book (with no financial interest in this edition) I want to say thanks to the BA for the plug here, it is much appreciated!
Tammy is hard at work on the 2007 edition and we are bound and determined to have the printed version available before the start of that year, hopefully in time for the Holiday Season.
‘Perfectly’ bound and determined.
