I have lived most of my life near a B-52 and Minuteman air force base; strange noises and/or lights even are no strange thing.(even here in north dakota) It seems that all of these reports have come from places that have very high profile bases(even if most of the puplic does not know what bases are considered "high profile" to the pentagon). If it was military(which it propably was) and was classified aircraft, of coarse no one is gonna talk about it! The end result is scratching heads and a bunch of conspiracy nuts and UFO freaks going off that they have the answer. Hell, with the comet going by(-bye)((haha)) it doesnt surprize me that someone is actually saying that we're gonna get hit(OMG we're doomed!!) Everyone likes to think that "the truth is out there" and yes, we live in changing times but come-on...get real. Somebody knows what it was and just isn't saying. Put your minds at rest, we're not getting invaded or bombarded from outer space. jeeeezzzeee!!!

About the only conspiracy-flavored notion I give any credence to is the project sometimes called "Aurora." There are those who speculate that the U.S. military operates an airplane/spacecraft that is as advanced for the early 21st century as the SR-71 was for the mid-sixties. Granted, this theory fits into that dubious category of "you can't see it, and that proves it's real," but proponents argue that, given the military's obsession with research and technological superiority, the idea that they would retire a craft like the SR-71 without a replacement seems equally so. All of which is to say, there may well have been something pretty big and VERY fast off the San Diego coast that didn't show up on radar because billions of dollars were spent to make sure it didn't.

I always thoought of UFOs this way. If I could head out through space in search of intelligent life and I found some what would I do? I think I would cruise down in the middle of the night and make some wierd crop circles, kill a few cows, drag a being up with me for experiments and put them back, maybe put on a good light show, or make really loud noises that they maybe never heard before. I thought the human race was twisted but these aliens are obviously worse than we thought. That there is other life out there is sure to be true but that they visit us? I don't think so.

I think I know what's causing it - punk jerks driving around with their subwoofers turned up extra loud. At least, that's what keeps me awake at night when I'm lying in bed and the walls start the thump and rattle.

Just because the military doesn't tell you they've been testing equipment or training doesn't necessarily mean that they haven't...:)

I have only visites San Diego twice when I was young. But I knew about the training area (the Top Gun school used it all the time when it was a Miramar). There maybe other training sites around the country as well. The Navy prefers the desert or the ocean, I don't know about the other brances though.

Well, it's good to know that part of the story is cleared up. Like you said, though, it won't explain for the similar reports elsewhere, like up in my part of the country. :)

Whoa. Sonic booms... in San Diego? Gee, I wonder what that could possibly be??? :-)

I suppose a certain amount of local knowledge is required, but I'm sort of shocked that anybody who actually lives in San Diego would need more than 10 seconds to think about it...
