Bad art

Some time ago, while fooling around with Google, I discovered that my site comes up as the second result returned when you search on the word "bad". I think that’s pretty funny (and damn you, African Development Bank– I used to be the first hit).

But I was curious about the lesser bad sites listed below my own. That’s how I discovered the Museum of Bad Art. Really, it speaks for itself, so take a tour through the objets d’blecch. But make sure you stop here and soak up the awfulness. The art is bad, sure, but the caption for this one really captured the true nature of the piece.

Watch out though for the British Association of Dermatologists. If I ever have a skin disorder- then B.A.D. will surely be top of my mind.

OK I took a look at some of those and really don’t see why some works from, hmm how shall I say it, well known artists aren’t in there. I’m sorry but Pollock, Picasso, and a bunch of others are certainly MORE than qualified for that little museum. Truly art is in the eye of the beholder. When you look at something that looks like it was done by a 3 year old finger painting and learn its worth mucho dollars just because of the person’s “name” it turns me off. If I had “painted” it it would be considered just what it is trash!

The really sad thing about Museum of Bad Art is that it is still better than anything I could do :-)

So, why does the African Development Bank outrank BA?

It doesn’t look like a bad idea at all.

My Mom will love this! She’s an artist who dispises anything that looks abstract! That’s funny! “In the Cat’s Mouth” cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh!

Phil, how could you? I mean c’mon…. let’s be serious here.

OK we’ve had our little joke. They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, any kind of publicity – good, bad or indifferent, is still publicity.

Having looked at the range of art as exhibited at the Museum of Bad Art in the link, and read through the various notes and the correspondence, especially that the second painting ever to be acquired by the Museum- “Eileen”, was stolen, I promise I’ll be on the lookout for ‘Eileen’, in fact I will ‘… seek her here, I’ll seek her there, I’ll seek her everywhere’. In fact I will actively call out for her too.

    C’mon Eileen .. .. c’mon Eileen.

Ivan. (Phil, is there any evidence of Bad Astronomy, either art or writing that would compare with the Bad Art Museum offerings?)

In our family we used to have something we called ‘Bad Butter’ which was actually Royal Scot or other generic margarine which probably is what oleo tasted like.
That art isn’t bad, it depends on your taste, one could argue anything that provokes a response good or ill is actually art worthy. On the other hand bad butter really was bad, despite my parent’s insistance that the only ‘bad butter’ was NO butter.

Seems like the spam blocker missed one. Ah well. Your hot items will be sold out soon, for they are so very hot. Stellar hot.

Meanwhile, “Mama and Babe” (http://www.museumofbadart.org/collection/portraiture-3.html) is just f’n /creepy/. It doesn’t hurt that Babe’s red sweater looks just like what Regan wore in /The Exorcist/… so now I have “Tubular Bells” running through my head. Thanks a lot for giving me something to do at work–look at bad art.

Hmmm. That horse picture isn’t a great piece of art, but the “missing body” is hardly missing. The horse is standing behind the person. Rather, the person is standing next to the horse and the horse has turned its head.

The frightening aspect of the picture is that it looks like Michael Jackson.
