« Everything is going according to my nefarious plans …

Khaaaaaaaaaan!

Actually, that’s con, as in the World Science Fiction Convention, held in LA this year from August 23 – 27.

The schedule has been posted, and if you search through it you might find a name or two that’s familiar. In fact, you’ll see my name, because I’ll be giving two talks and sitting in on several panels (I’m autographing my book there too). I plan on having a TON of fun, because many cool folks will be there, including loads of Star Trek people (like Mike Okuda, whom I met when I toured the Enterprise set, and Rick Sternbach, who was a poster on the Bad Astronomy/Universe Today bulletin board).

A fan has actually put together an extensive set of pages laying out the schedule, which makes finding things a lot easier. Nicely done, too.

And just when I get my breath back after that con, I’m heading off to Dragon*Con in Atlanta for more fun. Firefly cast members will be there! I am in major fanboy geek heaven.

I’ll have more details later on, but if any BAblogees are going, post a comment here!

And lessee, hmmm… yeah, I think that ends the Trek posts for a while.

“yeah, I think that ends the Trek posts for a while. ”

Think you’ll ever go into a “Doctor Who” line of posts? Or might that start a Trekkie/Whovian flame war?

    Good humor, BTW.

If you’re in LA, “Wrath of Khan” is playing at the Beverley Cinema tonight and tomorrow :)

I think I might have posted this link before, I might even have got from here, but what the heck, here goes…. KHAAAAAAAN!

This title, following the Shatner roast in such short order, is almost out of line. And while other people are making requests, will there be any Niven/Known Space posts?

Fact of the matter is that I’m annoyed that nothing ever seems to happen around STL… although we did get a repeated B-2 flyover for Air Force Week a few weeks ago. For now I will content myself with the fact that stealth bomber > science fiction convention, for this is the Internet and by stating it without evidence I make it so.

Speaking of Firefly, we are still waiting for you to review the series/movie on your site, Phil…

If he’s a fan, he won’t say anything bad about Firefly/Serenity. Not if he’s a good browncoat.:)

I am going to Dragon*Con this year, first time ever for me, and I am looking forward to finally getting to see the Bad Astronomer speak!

    Firefly: I liked it.

    Happy now?

OK, I’ll be there doing an exhibit of SF themed flying and non-flying models. Nothing big, just some model rockets (that flew in competition a couple weeks ago), some plastic models that can be converted for flight, a few that can’t and one gorgeous hand-turned model of the “Space Ark” from “When Worlds Collide.” At my request, the artisan who made it did not paint it, but rather varnished it bringing out the grain.

If you don’t make it past my booth (I have no idea where I’ll be), I’ll find you.

I love this: if you Google “khaaaaan”, you get:

    Did you mean: khaaan

Also, somewhere online there’s a plot of Google hits as a function of number of A’s in Khaaaaa(…)n. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. I’ll try to find it, sometime when it’s not 1:30 in the morning. (On the other hand, such things are really best appreciated in the wee hours….)

Maybe you should set up a BABlog meet for Dragon*Con? It’s be cool to meet you in person.

Maybe a time to meet at the bar on the mid-level of the Hyatt.

    Steve

PS: Brett, be prepared to be overwhelmed.

    Steve,
thanks! I know. I have a couple of freinds that went last year, and one who goes every year.

I am really looking forward to it, as it is my first real vacation in about 3 years too.

I, too, will be at DragonCon (when did they add the *?) for the first time, and looking forward to it.
