If someone jumped off a blog cliff, would you jump too?
I can easily hear this phrase rattling around in my mind whenever some blog meme goes around. Most are silly ("Name three books you’ve read this month") and some are useless. But a lot of bloggers happily jump off that precipice.
I rarely do, and this one really is useless, but I couldn’t resist: I’m an A-lister! Ironically, this makes the BABlog a "very high authority group", which is funny, since I constantly tell people to question authority.
But actually, this makes me happy since on another site I only rate the C-list. I guess I get a B average then. I graduate college with a B average, so I’ll take it.

Hey there BA, I’m a regular reader of your blog and congratulations on being on someone’s A-list. But when I clicked on your link to the page I was instantly transported from your sceptic/down-to-earth space into the crass/popular culture milieu, and to a picture of Paris Hilton strutting her stuff (i.e., to another planet) so I’m not sure that particular A-list is much of a reference…

Congratulations - although personally I follow the advice of Groucho Marx, when he said he didn’t want to belong to any elite club that would accept him as a member!

This sad little D-Lister envies your fame. Good on you, Phil.

Sorry for the double post. I get annoying error messages whenever I post comments to your blog these days so I thought my comment wasn’t going through:
Regex ID: 18261 () appears to be an invalid regex string! Please fix it in the Blacklist control panel.
Error messages deleted by The Bad Astronomer because they are very long and mess up the page layout.

I’m getting the same type of error messages as Chuck S.
I’m also getting them when I report bad posts on the BAUT.

Congrats Phil! You’re one of my daily stops, even when I get cranky.

I know about the errors, and they are very hard to fix. I’ve been working on this for weeks, but have been held up due to time pressures. I’ve been saying this for a long time, I know, but I’m hoping to have it fixed soon. See here.
Sorry about this.

I hate the idea of the blog comments being attached to BAUT. I almost feel like groveling, the idea bothers me so much. It’s much easier and smoother to read lots of comments here - there’s not all the “noise” of the board doodads, there’s no conflict of allowable content, etc. For the problem now, all people have to do is “refresh” and see that their comment is there despite the error page; it’s been discussed quite often.

Yes, but I still get tons of emails and comments about it. I am using SpamKarma, and cannot figure out how to edit the regex list. It is killing lots of spam, but getting me in all sorts of other trouble. I have added Akismet, but when I turn SK off I get lots of spam getting through.
The problem is getting pretty bad again. I have reservations about moving commenting to BAUT, but with the added rules in place I’m hoping it’ll work out well.

I’m a D-Lister who’s blogged about blogging in a vacuum (and the freedom that not being read implies), so I’m not entirely sure I do covet your fame.

Akismet will eventually train itself to grab almost all of that spam if you’ve got the time to mark spam as such. I’ve never really heard of it allowing so much spam through immediately, though. That’s quite curious. I get a lot of spam, too, but it quarantines it all on its own.

Congrats, BA! I don’t think I show up on any of these lists (must be down around the X- or Y-list), but I’m OK with that… It just reminds me how much I’m saving on bandwidth.
