… but I’d better win.
The 2006 Weblog Awards nominations are official, and Bad Astronomy is on it! Woohoo! Unfortunately, the committee in charge of nominations somehow let in a bunch of clearly inferior blogs:
Pharyngula
John Hawks Anthropology Weblog
RealClimate
Deltoid
Good Math, Bad Math
Mixing Memory
The Panda’s Thumb
In the Pipeline
SciGuy
What the heck is a Pharyngula? Some people will do anything to get their blog noticed.
Voting begins tomorrow! So vote early and often.

I’m totally for sale by the way…

Do we get to vote?
December 6th, 2006 at 4:40 pm
Wow, good luck! And you’re in great company! I’m looking forward to taking a look at some of the other nominees for some ideas of new Weblogs to read.

Everyone can vote.

Oh my, I got my Skepdude calendar today (thanks, Rebecca!) and Phil is nekkid!
…with a telescope. It’s a rather large telescope.
I say vote for the Naked Astronomer. ((-8~

So what’s in it for us? What bribes can you offer that PZ Myers can’t?
December 6th, 2006 at 6:23 pm
I think we need to discourage people from voting for a site called “Bad Astronomy”. That doesn’t make sense. Do we want people to endorse bad astronomy? Of course not.
And, since Good Astronomy is not a choice, everyone should vote for the site with the cuddliest, cutest name: Pharyngula.
December 6th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
Man, I’d really like to vote for you but the tag line on top of that Pharyngula site is Evolution, development, and random biological ejaculations from a godless liberal and that’s though to beat.

And i forgot the closing italics tag on that last post (it should be right after the word liberal). Yay me!

I registered on the weblogs award and spent 20 minutes trying to figure out HOW TO VOTE with no freaking success. What’s up with that?

[...] Phil Plait’s Bad Astronomy blog is a finalist in the 2006 WebLog awards. Vote early, vote often! [...]

Last I checked, you and PZ were in a dead heat.
You were behind by one until I voted for you.
(Also note, that I am a (micro)biologist by training… heehee)
Good luck!

This is going to be a tough one. I really like both blogs – they’re each just so informative and entertaining. I’ve been having some fun at Dr. Meyers blog lately (inside joke) but then when you spoke at the AAAS meeting in St Louis you didn’t slug me when I came up afterward and said something like “real cool stuff dude.”
I remember being so impressed when you climbed onto the stack of Marshall amplifyers dressed in your leopard skin loin clothe…..uh, wait a minute, I think that was something else…oh yeah, I was really impressed with your passion and simmering outrage over the Bush admin onslaught on science.
But then the biologist guy links to some really entertaining people that have completely disproved evolution and, I think, gravity and I’ve learned more than I ever thought that I would about 8-sided creatures. But then again you post geologically-related subject matter…and then there’s the Lenin on the shower curtain-grilled cheese sandwich thing.
Anyways, I’m heading into my lair of solitude and concentration to try and work this out. I just hope that when all’s said and done that there’ll be a paper trail.
Good luck.

Do any of you guys really want to win a competition that has LGF leading the best blog vote? And not by a small margin.
And have people seen the candidates for “Best Comic Strip”? I’m surprised that Least I Could Do and Sluggy Freelancer were included, though I guess the sexist humour of Least I Could Do might have a right-winged appeal. I guess I should just be pleasently surprised that Mallard Fillmore and B.C. aren’t candidates, though with Day by Day there, they might as well be included.
