Nice!
December 10th, 2006 at 10:22 pm
You act as if squid-kittens were a bad thing.
December 10th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
I’m not seeing a downside to tentacled cats. I’ll even vote for BA just for that picture.
December 10th, 2006 at 10:37 pm
I, for one, welcome our new Quarren-esque overlords.
December 10th, 2006 at 10:40 pm
Ah, now I understand the title of that James Bond movie, Octopussy.
Is anyone else concerned about Discovery Channel’s programming tonight? Giant Squid: Caught on Camera is being shown multiple times. I think the squidification has begun. Can Kang and Kodos be far behind?
December 10th, 2006 at 10:57 pm
I think it would be cool if that happened. Consider this a vote for squid-kittens.
December 10th, 2006 at 11:00 pm
I already voted three times I don’t want the squid to takeover. I don’t want to ruled by sushi.
December 10th, 2006 at 11:42 pm
OK BA are you trying to tell me that PZ is the embodiment of Cthulhu? That unspeakable things will occur if he win? The kitten is just a sample of his evilness? Hmmm, I may have to vote for you today. Convince me!
December 11th, 2006 at 12:01 am
Latest election coverage from Cox-Gene News: BA’s attempt at negative campaigning may provoke a backlash as he tries to manipulate the emotions of voters with images of threatened kittens accompanied by the slogan “If you vote for PZ at Pharyngula, this will happen.” Said one skeptical and tentacled voter, “I’m not seeing a downside to tentacled cats.” Meanwhile, BA is considering filing a complaint with the election commission over Discovery Channel’s decision to air “Giant Squid: Caught on Camera” multiple times so close to the election. Said a campaign staffer, who wished to remain anonymous, “We suspect collusion between Pharyngula and the Discovery Channel. How else to explain this sudden interest in an ocean invertebrate?” Entering the final days of this closely contested election, both candidates may be pulling out all the stops in what is shaping up to be one of the dirtiest campaigns in memory.

OMG - you’re getting worse than ME!
I’m guilt tripping my readers into voting for you. I plan on starting the blackmailing on Tuesday.
December 11th, 2006 at 12:19 am
I’ve been pulling for you, Phil, though the comments at my blog are further evidence that far too many people pay obeisance to the Old Ones. BA for best science blog!
December 11th, 2006 at 1:09 am
Purely side note, that show about the guy getting the first photographs of a giant squid was pretty interesting. It took him a few years but perseverance paid off for him.
Now back to our regularly scheduled squid bashing.
December 11th, 2006 at 1:25 am
OK Phil I saw you over at Skepticality earlier but you didn’t pitch for votes, well I am did it for you. After the horror of that poor kitten I could do no less. We must prevail for the fate of sanity on Earth, we may already be to late.
December 11th, 2006 at 2:45 am
Oh no, the Cthulhu Cat is coming?
Gotta vote RIGHT NOW!
December 11th, 2006 at 2:51 am
BA, your ego is showing. Anyone who would deface a kitten just to win an award will NEVER get my vote (even if you didn’t create the image yourself!)
December 11th, 2006 at 3:48 am
Well I already voted, but what I wanna know is, where can I got me one of them?! ;P
December 11th, 2006 at 4:21 am
Come on people! Were lagging by almost 300 votes. Remember, we can vote each day, not just once!
December 11th, 2006 at 4:57 am
I hate to be negative, but I think that we’re being owned.
December 11th, 2006 at 5:38 am
Ahahahaha Elf Eye:). Good one:).
December 11th, 2006 at 5:48 am
K, never thought I’d fire up the old PC, go to my favorite Science Blog and spew coffee on my monitor.
Bravo, Phil! The laugh has gotten a Monday off to a good start!
Yup, voting each day….you’ll get it. You have to, we cannot be ruled by these spineless overlords.
December 11th, 2006 at 6:26 am
Gah! That’s a horrible thing to wake up to before going off to take my Evolution final…
December 11th, 2006 at 7:11 am
OK I pimped for you with the “Slackers” too, if they vote it’ll help. But hey we are slackers over there so who knows how many votes it’ll drum up.
December 11th, 2006 at 7:17 am
The horror, oh the horror, my vote is on it’s way to stop this abomination
On the other hand, it would make it would make it easier to swing a cat
December 11th, 2006 at 7:43 am
OK sorry I just have to ask this….do you suppose its Zoidberg’s cat?
December 11th, 2006 at 7:57 am
we’re still down by 300ish.
December 11th, 2006 at 8:33 am
Is no one going to say “Cathulhu?” No one?
It just seems the obvious joke.
December 11th, 2006 at 8:48 am
Alright then, Cat-ullu. Happy now?
Zoidbergs cat?
No he ate that!
And my oh my just think what he sh ….@
Sorry couldn’t resist the doggrel (Cat-grell?)
Getting sillyand too late @night.
Ok Phil I’ve voted for ya!
Come to think of it though I’d rather be ruled by spineless overlords than spine-full ones. They’re much easier to resist!
Final thought before I drift off to a sleep stuffed with nightmares “..of Krakens and cats and sealing wax ..” :
Has anyone mentioned the Mon Calamari from ‘Star wars’ yet?
December 11th, 2006 at 8:57 am
Looks like Davy Jones’ cat to me…
December 11th, 2006 at 9:02 am
Is no one going to say “Cathulhu?†No one?
Well, at sometime around 7 AM EST, I made a blog entry entitled “Cathulu” that links to this entry
does that count?
December 11th, 2006 at 9:16 am
Great graphical rebuttal!!!
December 11th, 2006 at 10:00 am
I thought Cutethulu was more appropriate.
December 11th, 2006 at 10:18 am
The photo reminded me of “Hello Kitty meets HP Lovecraft”:

December 11th, 2006 at 10:20 am
I wanted to vote but found myself unable to!
Flash for a poll?
Holy Mother of Insanity!
This. Is. Bad. Web. Design.
December 11th, 2006 at 11:33 am
A kitten that can purr AND squirt ink?
Whats not to love?
December 11th, 2006 at 12:05 pm
Squittens!!! The new pet craze this holiday season in Japan.
December 11th, 2006 at 1:36 pm
I dunno about the rest of you folks, but voting for the same candidate more than one time is kinda offputting. This isn’t what I learned in grade school about responsible citizenship. Oh, well; it is for a good cause, and I’m easily led down the path of expediency…
December 11th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
I dunno Phil.. claiming that Pharyngula is the blog of unnatural squid-kitten hybrids is like the Republicans accusing the Democrats of being the party of perversion and moral degeneracy. My response is “but those are *good* things”.
December 11th, 2006 at 2:08 pm
Can you bottle that squitten, to make it au bonsai?
December 11th, 2006 at 2:35 pm
Greetings. I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks and I’ve really enjoyed being entertained and educated each morning when I read it. You definitely have my vote! Keep up the good thinking (and writing)!
Cheers,
Hollin
December 11th, 2006 at 3:39 pm
That’s one disturbing kitty!
I just voted for the BA blog again! Come on, everyone! Get out and vote! And if you voted today, remeber to vote tomorrow to close the gap!
December 11th, 2006 at 3:40 pm
Well, long as the squids leave my cat and dog alone, I’m happy.
I also hope they don’t mind me using them as bait.
December 11th, 2006 at 4:13 pm
It’s a trap!
December 11th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
Enough of this nonsense. I’ve lived in chicago long enough to know about voting.
lets getback to the interesting stuff. I just watched the docking and later the opening of the hatch joining ISS and STS116. cool stuff. NASA TV rocks. If I had 20 mill I would be tossing my helmet into the ring!
btw u deserve to win. I’m ignoring the numbers. (worked fr Bush didn’t it)
December 11th, 2006 at 5:22 pm
I suddenly have the urge to join a cthulu cult. Lovecraft was cleary a profet. That picture is proof that cthulu-did-it theory is correct.
December 11th, 2006 at 6:07 pm
Thanks for giving me more nightmare fuel. Just what I’ve always wanted! I just got done seeing a Takashi Miike movie and now that demented squid-kitty pops up on my monitor. I won’t sleep for days. Thanks, Phil! At least I’ll be able to catch up on some late-night shows I’ve been missing.
December 11th, 2006 at 6:33 pm
I have posted taunting rhetoric on PZ’s site I am sure it will dishearten him and his minions. POWER TO THE STARS!
December 11th, 2006 at 6:48 pm
There was something on the news tonight about a new, hard-beaked giant squid…
December 11th, 2006 at 9:39 pm
Yes, a new species: Promachoteuthis sloani. It is an omen of my ascendancy.
December 11th, 2006 at 10:47 pm
You know, I’m still voting for teh BA on teh internets…
But after following this contest for a few days I have started to subscribe to Pharyngula for the first time.
Everyone wins (except the kittens).
December 11th, 2006 at 11:04 pm
What happened to “One man, one vote” (sorry, “One person, one vote”)Â ? I think I’ll vote for Pharyngula.
December 11th, 2006 at 11:41 pm
Today’s post has made me think
Is the opposite of cat-holicism dog-matism?
December 12th, 2006 at 12:33 am
Kittem Improvement thru FSM - It is his noodliness making the blessed kitten more in his image. Oh what wonders the Flying Spaghetti Monster has in store for us. It’s a sign.

[…] Dr. BA needs your help to stop the invading squid horde! A vote for Dr. Phil Plait of BadAstronomy is a vote for kittens! […]
December 12th, 2006 at 4:35 pm
[…] Awwww… a fuzzy tentacle-mouthed kitty cat! Backfire. One commenter points out: Evolving Squid Says: December 10th, 2006 at 10:33 pm I’m not seeing a downside to tentacled cats. I’ll even vote for BA just for that picture. […]
July 13th, 2007 at 11:10 am
Cathulu…
You can thank Bad Astronomy for this: You should vote for Phil, even if he does disrespect mollusks and the Old Ones, because, well, where else are you going to see a picture of a tentacled cat? Even Pharyngula, though…
