The Evil One likes me better

PZ’s pathetic attempts to one-up me by making "cute" squid banners will fail, of course, but it has prompted me to make a few more for the Good Side that you can use on your blog or site. Just tell people to vote for me and then display the banner!

Of course, if there’s a good side, there must be a Bad Side… and they want me to win as well!

You can’t (or at least shouldn’t) argue with Cthulhu.

banner with Cthulhu

If you don’t want to see a squid on your site — and who does? — then there’s always this one:

I expect not everyone will groove on that image, but if, perchance, you do, then go buy a Skepdude calendar! But vote for me first.

I understood the first couple of contest-related bloggings, but this is getting pretty silly. Can we get back to Pharyngula and Bad Astronomy, please? My Google Reader is clogged with “vote for me” posts. I know my vote is with the blog that sticks to what ya’ll do best… Science.

Wow, Phil, look at you there. You look buff, man. All of a sudden I feel a draw toward the Skepdude calendar instead of the one with lots of lovely ladies.

    Sheer genius.

I also am impressed with Phil’s manly buffness. Who knew (bad) astronomy was so literally sexy?

Who knew (bad) astronomy was so literally sexy?

Answer: Mrs. BA. And probably the Bad Dog, but only the leg part, and only once in a while.

The Bad Astronomer is an anagram for ‘Masterhood banter’

Pharyngula is an anagram for ‘A hungry pal’.

(Yes, I used a computer program)

Suffice it to say that neither you nor the “squid man” have offered graft and corruption in the form of adding me to your blogroll. Being an australian and susceptible to all forms of skullduggery as a result of my “convict status”, I expect suitable forms of inducement.

Or, maybe I will just have to vote for both. We’ll see ;)

I’m no Evil One, but I was inspired to design a Bad Astronomy badge of my own. And no worries; it links to the Weblog voting site.

I may be time to start getting the creationists involved. You’re still behind. So go ahead Phil, make a deal with the devil. You would be the lesser of two weavils!

  19. 19.   Spacewriter Says:

Geez Phil, how am I supposed to have a beer with you at AAS and NOT think of that buff pic of you?
    ;)

OMG: now I’m going to have to run over to that “other” site and see what visual inducement HE’S offering… this could get ugly…

“Pharyngula” also fits “Ha, lunar gyp!” which seems appropriate here.

  22. 22.   Louise Says:

Phil, don’t miss the AGU Meeting in San Francisco this week! You can talk with Cassini scientists face-to-face.

  23. 23.   Infophile Says:
    December 13th, 2006 at 10:59 am

So now C’thulu is on our side? I told you that Pharyngula was Bel’Shamharoth, and this just proves it. C’thulu sure hates an imposter.

  24. 24.   The Bad Astronomer Says:
    December 13th, 2006 at 11:56 am

Louise, I can’t go to the AGU. I wanted to (I even got a press pass) but there is too much going on for me to go. Oh well.

  25. 25.   Mena Says:

I voted for Pharyngula but due to this competition I saw this blog too. It’s really good so between that and the buff photo, I’m going to vote for this one too. Arg, decision making sucks…

Call me boring or safe but I’ve stuck with yesterday’s Mars Face vote badge rather than either of these offerings. As I haven’t got a blog I’ve pasted the link on my useful links page:
    http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/Robert.Hollow/useful.html
I already have the BA linked from my AstroEd page.

Okay, I voted. It was the nudie picture that did it for me… you need a real backbone to do that, and squids just don’t cut the mustard in that department.

  33. 33.   Owlmirror Says:
    December 13th, 2006 at 6:49 pm

I think, if you’re going to gank a mashup for your campaign, you could at least credit the original artist.

Cthulhu in Western drag & “At the Brokeback Mountains of Madness” were generated (or perhaps “spawned”) by the fertile mind of Aaron Williams. Buy t-shirts with more wacky fun here:

Disclaimer: Aaron Williams has no idea who I am, and certainly isn’t going to pay me anything for pushing his work.

  39. 39.   Akusai Says:

You’re winning! 10 votes ahead at the moment! I knew it was possible. Nobody wants to be ruled by squids or octopi or…other…things…that are cephalopods. Like cuttlefish. Yeah, cuttlefish. Nobody likes cuttlefish, not even PZ the squid king. He never talks about cuttlefish. He’s not even an equal opportunity cephalophile. Remember that, Cthulhu fans, PZ Myers doesn’t even love all cephalopods. Vote Phil!

  40. 40.   Kevin Says:
    December 14th, 2006 at 10:56 am

You’re up by 10 votes as of right now!!!

And remember people, if you have more than one computer, you can vote more than once a day!!

    O base canard!

  42. 42.   Christian Burnham Says:

Hmmm, I’d call this one a tie. Can’t you two share the prize?
