I am an astronomer, writer, and skeptic. I likes reality the way it is, and I aims to keep it that way. My real name is Phil Plait, and I run the Bad Astronomy blog.

Now we know why astronomers aren't paid much. They have too much fun at their jobs so it ain't drudgery they have to be bribed to do. Isn't it cool, to be able to make a living(barely) doing what you love?

I remember(from books, not personally) back in the 1930s, scientists were the last person you'd want to have your daughter marry. Never home, staying up 'til all hours, trying to get the monster up and running. So obsessive in their jobs and paid so little. Which is why, I guess, we have so few thinkers in the world and so many lawyers and politicians,,,

Now, if only astronomers could patent their discoveries and make fortunes doing so, we'd be encouraging our little girls to make more astronomers. Then the world could get smarter, faster,,,

It may be a goofy picture of you and Pamela, but at least on the latest Slacker Astronomy video we all know what size underwear you have, and what you think is the center of the Universe. :)
