Awesome image Ian Regan, well done.

I have a vague memory of an old 'Voyager' photo taken behind the planet and from above or below that was somewhat similar. Think it was used in an old "National Geographic" (?) poster which had the solar system on the other side from back in the late 70's ~ mid 80's?

After hours of hard work (this is my first ever attempt at producing a colour mosaic of this size), here is Saturn in all its glory!

Thanks for posting your Saturn Image Remix Ian. I am glad that you put the (C)right on the lower right corner of the Jpeg. I shall respect your work. Of course NASA will post public domain soon. You beat them to the punch. Hey, lets get the tent packed for the lunar surface.

There are still a few tweaks to be made, and I'll be posting a final version at the weekend.

Enjoy! :)

Speaking of Saturn... Last night I took the binoculars with my hand made wooden stick to balance the view, and started looking towards Saturn. Yesterday was the first time in my life when I saw the ring(s) around it.

Me want now :)

One advantage is that it appears it will need less trimming to become my wallpaper compared to the other Saturn images. Though it was well worth the minimal work involved as most of my friends who have seen my desktop have snaffled a copy for their desktops.

Nice image. Rings are spectacular. I wonder what's involved with flinging Cassini into a polar orbit. I do know every Cassini orbit must resonate with Titan's, it needs to get back there to get the next boost.

Actually, the rings have gotten a lot of attention, if you know where to look. Some time ago, Phil posted a link to the Cassini Imaging public website, CICLOPS. Go there!

I hadn’t realized there were no polar photographs of Saturn—it’s amazing how little we’ve seen so far!

Interesting that its only just now getting a shot at this. Given all the attention that's been given to Titan, Enceladus and the other moons, its high time the ring system got some serious attention. Its kinda been hanging in limbo since those first unbelieveable shots we saw during Cassini's insertion into Saturn orbit.
