Randi on Anderson Cooper tonight, 10 p.m. Eastern

Via JREF and Skeptico comes the news that Randi’s interview on Anderson Cooper will be tonight:

Randi on CNN with Anderson Cooper, 10pm EST Jan 30
(Yes, this time it’s for real! – So they say…)

Tonight, Randi will be on Anderson Cooper Live. The show starts at 10:00 PM EST. A missing person’s case and missing identity. “360°” takes you inside the mind of a con woman. What makes her tick? Watch tonight 10 ET.

Yay! Oh– I saw the "Is It Real" show about life on Mars where I make a brief appearance. I may have something to say about that later.

Wow. Mr. Randi was getting pretty angry and I was getting angry, as well. Not only would Browne’s manager refuse to shut up, they ended before Randi could give his coup de grâce. You could see it on the tip of his tongue, but the combination of Browne’s willfully ignorant manager and the disturbingly small amount of time they gave that segment, Randi couldn’t get off a debate point.

I love seeing James Randi on television, but that whole segment was infuriating.

Dude, you are really turning into a Randi groupie – its almost obsessive. Every other post seems to be about him.

    Mike:

Randi has done more than just about any other person over the past 50 years to actively defend science and rationalism.

Anytime Randi gets on television to further defend these values- I want to hear about it.

    Watching the repeat now….

Sylvia’s agent attacked Randi as being an atheist who hates Christians, Muslims etc.

Props to Anderson Cooper for immediately responding that the agent was using a ‘high school debating tactic’.

In fact- props to Cooper and his team for running with this story over multiple nights- researching Sylvia’s claims and inviting an expert- James Randi to explain the skeptic reaction.

I’ll email CNN to thank them. We need more of this.

It was a good night for television- James Randi on CNN and Neil deGrasse Tyson on The Daily Show!

Actually, I was taught debate in high school, and we were expressly told to avoid that tactic. It’s elementary-school debate at best.

Well, Browne’s manager did her job in preventing Randi from getting a word in edgewise. Not only that, but by presenting such obviously fallacious arguments she almost assured that his time would be spent addressing such comments and not tearing apart Sylvia’s reputation. The charade continues.

I saw the segment last night and was glad that Anderson showed how outrageous this is (I felt he treated Randi with way more respect than Larry King did). I loved it when in the midst of Browne’s manager was spewing that garbage about Randi being an Atheist makes his points invalid that Anderson jumped in to defend Randi (since he didn’t get to say much himself) saying to her, “So since I’m asking questions too, that also makes me a non-believer?” or something to that effect. Yeah! I am glad skepticism was brought out in the public eye as a GOOD thing for once. And also that Atheists and people of all religions have a right to question this garbage about psychics and expose it for exactly what it is and what it is not.

I only wish Randi could have had more time to talk. I have got my grandmother (a Christian) very interested in Randi and this debate. She was cheering by my side for skepticism and science last night. At least it was cathartic for us!

Mike– Randi is a dear friend of mine, I just got back from his annual convention, and he’s been on TV slamming Sylvia Browne which is an extremely rare event for the MSM. That’s why there have been so many posts.

  14. 14.   Ted H. Says:

The absolute worst part was the pre-retrofitting done by Browne’s manager. Maybe it was some other child she saw, not Hornbeck. She has just given Sylvia two free ‘hits’. If/when a child is abducted by a hispanic, and if/when a child’s body is found in woods near rocks. Words fail me.

    Hey, B.A.

Was wondering if you could help me find this “Life on Mars” bit? When I followed the link, I was only been able to find a short, 2 min. video relating to this topic. I’d like to see it, but myself do not have cable tv. Is it posted anywhere else?

Is It Real? is a program on the National Geographic tv channel. There do not appear to be digital copies on the website to download.

I do not see a way to order a copy of the program listed on the website, but you might email them.
