TAM 5 Report #5: Blogs and photos

I’m all out of video interviews from TAM (I did interview Richard Wiseman on the webcam, but it got all messed up and I won’t air it). I still have one or two stories to tell — a longish one involving Penn and Joe Rogan, of all people, and I guarantee you’ll like this one! — but they can wait. So for those of you who wish they could have gone to TAM 5, or wonder what it was like to go, I have been collecting blog entries of people who were there, as well as pictures form the meeting. Below I’ve listed them for your reading and viewing pleasure.

But first, I need to make a special shout-out to one Robert Lancaster. Last year at TAM 4, Robert gave a short presentation on his Stop Kaz website (wherein he single-handedly stopped a nasty scamming "psychic" from defrauding more people). Robert recently opened up his StopSylviaBrowne website, and we are hoping for the same results: the 100% dead-stopping of that horrible, horrible woman. At TAM 5, a lot of events came together to propel Robert into the limelight, giving his efforts much needed national coverage.

Go read Robert’s story. It’s very, very cool.

OK, on with it then.

Hah, Ray Natian. It is Roy Natian. Either way, I am sure he is happy to be mentioned on your blog.

Hilarious! Check out this picture from Stellar Alchemy with Randi and Penn Jillette. Look close, because Penn is almost completely covered by Randi! A near-total eclipse, so to speak.

Sorry, forgot to mention that you can just click my name; I know I’m a little brash, adorning myself with borrowed plumes, but Penn and Randi… I mean, look at them. :D

I read through the stop silvia browne website and I love it!! I am stunned that people can buy into this crap. I hope she gets shut down. I feel like its akin to stealing money. I hope I can make an amazing meeting once, it looks like fun

Question for Phil, based on what I observed at TAM-5. Do you feel that your accomplishments as an astronomer and educator are being overshaddowed by the fact that you now seem to be something of a “sex symbol.” Also, does your time spent as a sex symbol (Photo shoots, appearances, partying) cut into your time as an astronomer? How do you feel about tis

  6. 6.   Roy "Ray" Natian Says:

First off, my name is misspelled. It’s ‘Roy’ not ‘Ray’. But I’ll consider changing my name to Ray in order to make it easier for you, Phil.
Secondly, at around 35-37 seconds into your Adam Savage interview at TAM5, you’ll see someone walking between you and Adam…that’s me.
    I’m famous!
