Great article, Phil. Really enjoyed it. I’ve decided to subscribe for my son — well, and maybe myself as well. Do you ever listen to Skywatch out in California? Our local NPR station plays it on Thursday mornings. They had a segment on dark matter February 1st. I’d be curious to hear what you thought of it. http://hubblesite.org/explore_astronomy/skywatch/. Phil, this sentence is still a bit confusing:

… they have created a map two degrees on a side (roughly 15 times the area of the full Moon) and 6 billion light years deep.

It took me till the end of the article to clarify this is one small segment of the sky being mapped. And there are no hints as to which segment of the sky.
