Skepchick Rebecca Watson has made it to the fourth and final round of a radio contest to be the next great public radio host!

You can listen (and vote on) her entry at the Public Radio Talent Quest site. For this round, she investigates orbs, (not-so) mysterious circles of light that appear in digital photos. As an added bonus, she interviews my dear friend Richard Saunders about them, too.
I have listened to all of Rebecca’s contest entries, and this is her best yet. She has a knack for this, and I think she’d make a fine host.

Hey, I have those glasses in brown!

Best of luck to Rebecca!
But I hope she’ll continue to be one of the skeptical rogues of the “Skeptic’s Guide To The Universe ” podcast.

Go Rebacca! Or, move to Australia and be on our radio

The content is wonderful, but I find the NPR format and sound horrendous–it’s too melodious and subdued. It has always put me to sleep…even in the car. Nonetheless, I’m giving her the highest vote possible!

The “believer” she’s talking to sounds a bit like Krusty the Clown. I kept waiting for him to say “Hey orbs! Ha ha ha ha ha!”
Anyway, I also think Rebecca would make a fine host. Best of all, she’s of the youger generation (relatively speaking of course; she’s a year younger than I), and so can pass on the word of critical thinking for years to come. The world needs more people like her.

It’s a spider by or on the camera not a ghost . Those people are idiots! (I’m talking about the video near the bottom of page that says A Ghost?) These ghosts sites are ridiculous.

She does a great job and I will vote for her even though my entry in her “Momemt of Science” contest failed to earn even an honorable mention.
Good luck, Rebecca. Your presence will raise the power level at PBS by several hundred megawatts.

My entry in her “Moment of Science” contest didn’t fare very well, either.

I suppose this means more pair-bonding proposals for the skeptical rogue. It’s what happens when you combine brains and beauty.
Good (skeptical) luck, Rebecca. We are all behind you.

The first time I showed an “orbs” site to my wife, she insisted the people who made it just had to be joking–nobody in real life, she thought, could possibly be that stupid.

If Rebecca doesn’t win, then I’m not renewing my NPR membership! So there!

I agree, Rebecca is a natural at this and I gave her top rating. Her sample show was great. I checked out some of the other contestants and couldn’t see any real substance to their programs, at least there wasn’t anything you couldn’t get somewhere else. The only way Rebecca could lose is if the judges are a bunch of woo woo worshippers themselves and don’t want a “cynic” on board.

“… and so can pass on the word of critical thinking for years to come. The world needs more people like her.”
Exactly!! And also.. I think that intelligent, skeptic girls are sexy.. Is there a skepchick dating-site?
All the best of luck! You rock! (and so does Phil, but he isn’t sexy.. To me..)

Damn, I’ve never heard her speak, but she’s hot. Best of luck to the hot skeptic.
