Fanboys

Yes, in high school this movie could have been about me.

Though I was always more of a Trek fan than Star Wars. Still.

I think this will be pretty funny; I recognized one of the actors as the lead in "Balls of Fury" which was surprisingly funny (though "Dodgeball" still sets the standard).

YES! This will go on my DVD shelf, right next to Galaxy Quest.

I prefer the short that this movie seems to be a blatant rip-off of.

Hrm. If I’m not mistaken, that’s Kristin Bell in the black wig. I loved Veronica Mars, but her acting on Heroes is teeth-grindingly awful.

“I’m William Shatner, I can score anything.”

I nearly keeled over laughing at that line! :)

First I’d heard of this, and I’m definitely going to be watching this one! Right in my wheelhouse!

I can only imagine their reactions after actually screening the movie they work so hard to get.

    “OH MY GOD!!!! THAT SUCKED!!!!!”

This will definitely be a lot funnier than Free Enterprise.

alfaniner, I had the same thought. It’s how I’d end the movie.

HA! At least Shatner got a part in this movie. More than I can say for the new Trek, due out next year! :)

It should also be noted that the last three Star Trek movies did not disgrace the entire franchise.

Insane! This one is marked “must see”. :)

Beat me to it JSW. The one you linked to was really good. This one, although it looks to be a rip-off, may end up being better due to superior credentials however. I’ll still be seeing it.

I’m just glad someone else liked Balls of Fury.

Whew! That was close. When I saw the Title I was sure that Dr. BA was posting complaints about me.

Fanboys was written by a guy named Ernie Cline and he’s a comedy genius. A few years ago he let me do one of his monologues for a show at Dragon*Con.

The audio goes out in the middle but it’s still pretty funny.

Apparently bad astronomy doesn’t let one embed a link so here’s the URL:

I can’t wait to see the NY Times review for this one. I love reading them when they are panning a movie.

I have a sinking suspicion that we just saw the funniest points in the movie.

I can’t wait to see it! I’m sure I’ll have to buy it and also put it right next to Galaxy Quest and Free Enterprise.

This movie is not a “rip off” of the New Zealand short. If anything, it’s the other way around. Fanboys was written in 1998, four years before the NZ short. And the plot was outlined in Newsweek, the Village Voice, Ain’t It Cool News, and all over the internet.

Its not a rip off…I directed the New Zealand short ‘Fanboys’ based on a news article I read somewhere about a group of fans trying to steal a copy of TPM before the release date. I’m guessing we both may have read the same article.
