I’m #2!

Wow, I lost to PZ again. You might think that this isn’t really about good science, but might just be a popularity contest.

Oh. Right.

At least he lost the Editors’ Choice.

Thanks for the votes, folks. I feel the lurv.

Oh– some other guy wrote about this too.

BA: we all win. Last year, this contest introduced me to PZ’s great blog, and I guess his readers were introduced to yours.

The only reason I read this blog is because I can’t remember the name of the winner.

BA, I enjoy your science writing more than PZ’s and find your blog much more informative. But PZ rants against religion, which is a guilty pleasure, like watching Dawson’s Creek and car crashes. I imagine many others feel the same way. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoy both blogs and I’m glad that I have two excellent blogs to choose from.

I voted for you Phil, but not enough times dammit.

    Next year.

For what it’s worth, I think your blog is every bit as informative and educational as Randi’s, and I hope you never stop.

There’s no shame in being second, and you don’t write to win prizes, do you?

Your blog is very informative and is read with pleasure (and sometimes amazement) here in Flanders (Europe).

    Keep up the good work!

Don’t look at me. I read you, I link to you on the publicly-visible portion of my blogroll, and I recommend your (first) book to friends (and I offered to buy you a beer when you were in DC, but you didn’t take me up on it), but I don’t vote in referenda like these.

Phil, it may be of some consolation to know that I recently unsubscribed from PZ, as well as Aetiology and the blog about ethics in science (the name escapes me at the moment). Compared to PZ, you are a diplomat, and ranters get old even if you agree with them (I try to tell myself this when I write my own newsletter).
Also, they do their lead ins with more cuteness than concision. I need a summary that helps me decide if I want to open that particular story because I don’t have hours to spend on these subjects. Your lead ins could sometimes be better but they are generally fairly clear. And the three blogs that are now in my past had some kind of formatting problem where they ran off the side of the page, a frustrating problem that I don’t understand and which they wouldn’t address.
Keep up the good work and don’t worry about whether you are first or fiftieth. Don’t be a Boy Scout concerned with how many merit badges you have. Be concerned with the good you do and the growth you enjoy.
