Brains on Vacation: Martian Bigfoot and Randi

Regular readers know I have a gig on the SETI radio show Are We Alone. The segment is called Brains on Vacation, and you can guess what I talk about.

The new show is out (here is the direct link to the MP3); Seth Shostak and I talk Martian Bigfoot, and have some fun with it as we always do. The show also features one of my heroes and friends, James Randi, who discusses the Million Dollar Challenge and Uri Geller, too.

And what’s this? Seth will be on an episode of the online Star Trek: New Voyages? What a nerd.

    You’re insanely jealous aren’t you…

Every time I click on the comments following an article, it takes several minutes to load. Is there some way of streamlining the process? Is there something that takes up an insane amount of disk space in each comments section? Maybe take out some of the photos?

But if Seth wears a red shirt, it will definitely be only one episode.

I think he looks better with gray hair.

@Barton: I believe our host said on another thread that the site is currently being hit repeatedly because of current links from Fark and Digg, and that tends to slow things down.

Do I detect a hint of jealousy in your tone?

    Worth a watch!

Speaking of brains on vacation: I watched one ep of “the new voyages” and after seeing the Enterprise skid through space like the Duke boys and do barrel rolls I decided the people behind might be big trek fans but their talent ended there.

Ian–watch the newer ones. The effects are much more like the originals, and they look really great. The acting, on the other hand… ;)

But wasn’t Seth in Of Gods and Men and not New Voyages?

I saw Seth’s name during the credits of Of Gods and Men this past weekend during Phoenix Comi-con and was wondering if it was the same person.

    Yay! That’s so awesome!

    Star Trek…yawwwwwn….
Do you people HAVE TO be nerds and losers? Can’t you just enjoy astronomy here?

Yesterday’s Astronomy Picture of the Day has the “Martian Bigfoot”:

    http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap080129.html

Of course, they have the entire panorama, not just the “bigfoot” image. They also have the nice little comment:

Tenacious image explorers might locate Little Bigfoot towards
the front left of the high resolution panorama.

    Boba Fett:

Who you calling a loser, Dude?

As a Trekki of loooong standing(from the first TV showing in ’66), one who has traveled around the world several times, raised three successful children and is generally self sufficient, I fail to see how that appellation is valid. Nerd is just another name for a being of intelligence, passion and hope.

I’m damn proud of being a NERD!

    So there,,,

It’s awesome you do some publicity for “Are We Alone.” I may be biased (full disclosure: I was an intern there,) but I think it’s one of the best science podcasts ever! Everybody should listen to it!
