The Delta II rocket that will loft GLAST into space in May has arrived at Cape Canaveral.

How’d you like to see that pass you on the highway? Anyway, I’m posting this a gentle reminder to keep suggesting names for GLAST. As you can see, things are rolling along for launch. Get naming!

I would love to see it go by on the highway! Of course, I would love to see it more if it were going down the highway lit.

I’ve already made my suggestion for a name for GLAST: Satellite of Love

I was at the Cape for the Shuttle launch and I saw Pad 17 and the Delta 2 hangar… Phil, are you going down to see the GLAST launch?

My guess is that this wouldn’t pass much of anything on the highway. I bet this rig lives in the slow lane.
Until they stand it vertical on the pad and light it, of course…

When the Air Force would transport the Agenas from Sunnyvale to Vandenberg (about 300 miles/500 Km) for the classified missions they looked sort of like that, only not so long and completely covered in a shroud. The shroud had an Air Force “Star & Bar” logo on it, which had to be placed off center because the trip down US 101 was mostly through rural areas and the yahoos would take pot shots at it, using the star as a target!

Actually you wouldn’t get to see the rocket on the highway, notice the white box behind the truck it goes on top of the trailer. All you would get to see is a white semi trailer. And the truck goes the same speed as all of the other semi’s the first stage doesn’t really weigh that much till you get the propellants on board. I’m actually really impressed at how quickly Phil got a photo up, the thing just arrived at Hangar M.
