I am an astronomer, writer, and skeptic. I likes reality the way it is, and I aims to keep it that way. My real name is Phil Plait, and I run the Bad Astronomy blog.

Regarding item 1) "You have plenty of time to see it; it runs through March 2009."

Don't ever say that... We said that exact thing about "The First Emperor" exhibition in the British Museum and we missed it.
Just go now!

Just like the time I could have met Mr. T at the mall. The entire day, I kept saying, 'I'll go a little later, I'll go a little later...' And when I got there, they told me he just left. And when I asked the mall guy if he'll ever come back again, he said he didn't know. Well, I'm never going to let something like that happen again!

Totally off topic: Garret Reisman, aboard the ISS? Did anyone see this totally awesome interview with Stephen Colbert? Okay, BA nation, let's get Phil's "Death From The Skies" on the Colbert reprt, and then on the ISS!

Huh? UT reported that the first friday in May is Space Day, now we've got an Astronomy Day? How many more of these events are there?

Anyway, it gives me another chance to try out my new telescope for the neighbour's benefit. Maybe this time without the "schweinwolke".

Saturday is also Pangea Day, and a film called 'Pale Blue Dot' (referencing Sagan, of course) is one of the featured films for the event:
http://www.pangeaday.org/pangeadayFilms.php

Interestingly, I was notified of this through the CICLOPS email list. It also said that Porco will be speaking at the event in Los Angeles.

Speaking of National Astronomy Day:

The Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association, in cooperation with Flandrau Science Center and local astronomers will have telescopes set up from 3:30PM until 10:00 on the U of A Mall by the Science Center. During the day, filters will allow viewing the Sun, and at night, you can see the Moon, planets, and stars. Local astronomer David Levy and his wife will be there to raise money for their Sharing The Sky Foundation. Admission is free.

quick cut from where I posted it on my job's web site.
