Remember, Time is not like one way street. Future events can affect past events.

Who is to say the stars are going out or if they are blotted out by a shadow or something.

The Daleks had to comeback in order to find out what just happened in the Time Wars and how the Shadow Proclamation came into being. (Are they related?)

Last but not least, are there not particles that travel backwards through time?

That still means that they are all being extinguished at different times relative to Gramps’s viewpoint on Earth.

That means god knew how and when the conundrum would be solved, so he could start turning out the lights at appropriate times in Earth’s past to give the impression of a cascade effect in the present. Kinda defeats the purpose, if all is predestined like that.

i really haven watched dr. who enough to know anything about it, and i know its a tv show so there has to be drama and cliffhangers and all that. by if the good doctor can travel time. shouldent he know how time will play out.

This has been covered in some of the episodes, for example Pyramids of Mars (a classic Doctor Who episode). The companion (Sarah Jane) says “We know [the bad guy] fails because I’m from the future.” So the Doctor takes her back (to the future) to her own time and finds the earth is a dead planet.

I believe the current season this was mentioned in the Fires of Pompeii.

And of course, time is all wibbly wobbly timey whimey. (as someone pointed out earlier).
