I’ll be attending the American Astronomical Society meeting in St. Louis starting Sunday (in two days! Aiiieee!), where I’ll be reporting on all the astronews goodness I can.
A bunch of astronomy bloggers will be there, and following our awesome meetup we had in Austin in January, we decided to do it again. Pamela Gay (Star Stryder, Astronomy Cast), Chris Lintott (Chris Lintott’s Universe, Galaxy Zoo), me, Nancy Atkinson (Universe Today) and probably a bunch of others will be there.
We’ll be meeting at the KitchenK restaurant on Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00 p.m. We’ll be eating, drinking, chatting, bragging, mixing, matching, gerundizing, and probably other things for which there are no words.
Be there, or B2!

Aww, my flight home leaves at 6:30! Well, have a beer for me.

“Be there, or B squared“???

And it appears that this blog eats “sup” tags.
I put them in! Honest!

Have fun, Phil. Just be careful if you have a star party!

Time for Phil to dash-to-the-foray,-see?
Sorry. Attempt at quadratic humour.

Hmmphh… I want to be an astronomer… I’m 33 years old, do I have time to go back to school and become one?
Sounds like a lot of interesting conversation and sharing of thoughts. I’ll just be here at my corporate workaday job reading about it on BA and UT.

Wish I could be there. Unfortunately, I’m teaching summer classes, so I can’t take off a week for the AAS meeting.
You’ll have to post photos of the get-together.

I’ll try to make it myself … I’ll be giving a talk at AAS on Wednesday afternoon, which you shouldn’t miss!

I’m not making it to St. Louis since I’m going to a conference in Scotland later this summer.
Maybe I’ll see some of you in Long Beach in January?

I’ll see you at the Sunday IYA workshop. Safe travels!

I’m not an astronomer, but I’m a fan and a reader of the blog. And I conveniently live in St. Louis. Would this get-together be open to folks like me, or just to “astronomy bloggers”?

Phil, I saw your talk at the AAAS meeting a few years ago here in STL. I certainly enjoyed the talk and I’ve enjoyed the blog since then. So, in the interest of giving back, here’s a list of some of by favorite places near downtown:
BB’s Jazz Blues and Soups
South STL city on Broadway – 5 minutes walk south of Busch stadium. Some good Cajun items on the menu.
Broadway Oyster Bar
½ block south of BB’s Jazz Blues & Soups
They have a nice beer garden and oysters.
Hopefully, all the links work. I test drove them at another blog that seems to be popular with the squid and they seemed OK. Have fun. Plan on rain.

If you get the hankering for a pub:
O’Connells Pub
Southwest of downtown STL – 10 minutes cab ride
This is my favorite pub with good beer and scotch and one of the best cheeseburgers in town. Probably wouldn’t be too crowded Sunday – Tuesday and can accommodate groups up to 10 or so at the big table.
Dressel’s Pub
West of downtown STL – 10 minutes cab ride. Very good food and beer, good food and generally good service. This pub is in the Central West End area of the city with lots of good restaurants, bars and shops – a good stop if you’re looking for a book is Left Bank Books.
Llywelyn’s Pub
West of downtown STL – 10 minutes cab ride (right around corner from Dressel’s Pub). A little more room to spread out than at Dressel’s.

Just in case anyone’s looking for a chance to work off a couple of beers/burgers, there’s a nice jogging/biking trail around Forest Park – easily accessed from the Planetarium (connected to the Science Center across Highway 40) parking lot – Washington University is located on the west side of the park and the Delmar Loop (more good restaurants/bars/shops with lots of University town flavor) area is located about 1/2 mile northwest of the park. In fact, if you get to the Loop, you should plan on dinner at Riddle’s – great food, great beer/whiskey selection and good jazz on Sunday nights (closed on Monday).
And no, I do not work for the tourism board.

Yeah, I always wondered why the January meeting conflicts with the first week of class . . .

Yeah! I can make it!

Sounds like a great meeting. BTW, it must be KenB’s browser or some other problem, because I saw the superscript in your blog. I am impressed.

Can an astrostat slogger join? I think I’m the only one attending the 212th AAS from the AstroStat slog group. And it’s my first time at AAS!
