Just in case anyone’s looking for a chance to work off a couple of beers/burgers, there’s a nice jogging/biking trail around Forest Park – easily accessed from the Planetarium (connected to the Science Center across Highway 40) parking lot – Washington University is located on the west side of the park and the Delmar Loop (more good restaurants/bars/shops with lots of University town flavor) area is located about 1/2 mile northwest of the park. In fact, if you get to the Loop, you should plan on dinner at Riddle’s – great food, great beer/whiskey selection and good jazz on Sunday nights (closed on Monday).

And no, I do not work for the tourism board.

If you get the hankering for a pub: O'Connells Pub Southwest of downtown STL - 10 minutes cab ride This is my favorite pub with good beer and scotch and one of the best cheeseburgers in town. Probably wouldn’t be too crowded Sunday – Tuesday and can accommodate groups up to 10 or so at the big table. Dressel's Pub West of downtown STL - 10 minutes cab ride. Very good food and beer, good food and generally good service. This pub is in the Central West End area of the city with lots of good restaurants, bars and shops – a good stop if you’re looking for a book is Left Bank Books. Llywelyn's Pub West of downtown STL - 10 minutes cab ride (right around corner from Dressel’s Pub). A little more room to spread out than at Dressel's.

Phil, I saw your talk at the AAAS meeting a few years ago here in STL. I certainly enjoyed the talk and I've enjoyed the blog since then. So, in the interest of giving back, here's a list of some of by favorite places near downtown: BB's Jazz Blues and Soups South STL city on Broadway – 5 minutes walk south of Busch stadium. Some good Cajun items on the menu. Broadway Oyster Bar ½ block south of BB’s Jazz Blues & Soups They have a nice beer garden and oysters. Hopefully, all the links work. I test drove them at another blog that seems to be popular with the squid and they seemed OK. Have fun. Plan on rain.
