More naked skepticism

The new Skepchick and Skepdude calendars are available to order!

Because I am such a superstar celebrity of epic power and might, I was able to wrangle seeing a picture or two.

Rawr.

The only publicly available picture is of skepchick, BABloggee, and all around cool chick ARealGirl:

Note the adornments.

So I’m buying one of the Skepchick calendars at TAM 6, and I’m getting it signed by everyone I can. The funds go toward promoting skepticism for women, which I think is a fine idea.

And no, before you ask, I’m not in it this year. I can’t top last year’s… but I’m still considering an idea that came up for next year’s calendar, and it’s tempting. We’ll see.

    That is an awesome picture. She’s really quite photogenic. Plus, neat effect with everything black & white except the jewelry. Well done.

    Excellent idea of having the calendar signed and auctioning it.

    I dunno, Phil. It would be hard to top last years pic. My eyes, they still burn… :)

    On c’mon… you have to buy a Skepdude calendar, too!

    So, why is Saturn larger than Jupiter? (Or is that just an illusion, because of the rings? It’s hard to tell at this scale.)

    And where’s Pluto? ;-(

    I am deeply covetous of that necklace and earring. If anyone can contact ARealGirl (or if she can tell me herself) and find out where she got it and details I would be eternally and cosmically grateful :)

    Thanks BA…you’re very good to me!

    And, Ken, Saturn isn’t larger than Jupiter. The beads themselves are the same size (or pretty near it…) but the rings on Saturn make it look bigger.

    Also, there are no *plutoids* on the necklace, after all. That would have been much harder to make.

    @ARealGirl
    I just tried Googling (I love a good Google) solar system necklaces and quite frankly they were ALL horrendous! Completely inaccurate and UGLY as can be. I am SO JEALOUS! Where oh where did you find that combo? PLEEZE :)

    Madge: well, my mom made it for me, so it’s sort of a one of a kind.

    It’s a little complicated though, since I also did lots of googling before I called in the big guns. I can be reached at a.real.girl (at) Skepchick.org. (replacing with the @, of course.)

    If you’d like to e-mail, I’ll tell you all about it.

    @a.real.girl — Your mom made that necklace? Cool! It’s very pretty.

    Just a tad off topic but watch this video from Penn and Teller showing people who are not at all skeptical:

    They obviously were also asleep in their high school and/or college chemistry classes.

    @ARealGirl
    Forget the necklace…I want your Mum! Your Mum ROCKS! All my Mum ever made me was a revolting pastel yellow crochet shawl! Who the FRACK wears shawls?! :)

    I am heartened by her decision not to include Pluto in that necklace.

    I’ve been saying that little backwater iceball wasn’t a planet since back before it WAS a non-planet!
