I was present for 105. The launch was delayed one day and on the second day, I was all prepared. Yes, I KNEW I had the correct pad.

The instant of launch – my camera mount flopped 90 degrees and I was photographing the ground!

I did recover – but only just. I missed the clearing of the tower as well.

Yep – it happens to us all.

I went to a launch last August where my darling wife and I staked out a spot on the intracoastal a few miles (several more kilometers) due west of the pads. It was mostly water between us and the pad. But it wasn’t clear from our vantage point which of two launch pads had the shuttle on it. My 10x binoculars didn’t help enough.

One guy who was there who claimed to work at the space center told me it was the pad on the left. Well, it was the pad on the right. It isn’t easy to tell given the distance one must be at sometimes. Of course, a night launch is far more obvious.

The video is still funny, though. So (Nelson) HA HA! (/Nelson)

Funniest thing I’ve seen all day, I shudder to think the amount of ribbing the poor idiot receives because of this. Hehe, probably can’t get within 3 metres of a camera without someone making a “make sure you point to the right one” joke.
