Teen Skepchick, open for business

I read Skepchick every day, and I have a pretty broad and bawdy sense of humor, but even I know that it’s not really appropriate for more tender ears (well, eyes). So whaddya do?

You start Teen Skepchick. Well, if you’re Rebecca Watson, founder of Skepchick, that is.

Branching off of Skepchick, the teen version will be adapted for a younger girl audience (12 and up). The writers will talk about things that interest and concern them, and girls can leave comments there as well. As you might expect, it’ll be more heavily moderated than its big sister site, but that’s fine with me. We need to get more girls interested in thinking critically, and this is a great way to do it.

Rebecca already got BABloggee Splendid Elles to sign up and blog for her, which is great. She’s already proven herself to be a very capable young woman. I’m no psychic — no one is — but I see good things ahead for this new effort.

    I know Elles too. I met her… um…

    Wonderful, more outreach of science.

Whoa! I can’t wait to tell my daughter (12)! I’m sneakily leaving up skepchick.org/teen so she’ll see it…

  5. Mike Torr Says:

Crikey! Hurrah for Elles! I remember her well, and I wish her all the best with this exciting venture.

    Splendid, indeed! :D

all of us at skepchick are excited about the new site. i, for one, can’t wait to see what elles, sarah, and cassie have to say.

i wish i had access to something like this when i was a teen…it would have been nice to actually connect with people i could relate to, and might have even sped up my deconversion. i’m glad that today’s girls have it.

I also think that Elles is just the right one for the job. We, the teenagers, must have a bit of rational thinking from square one, in order to deal the woo that everybody gets sooner or later.

Although I think this is very cool and wholeheartedly support the endeavor…

I have to wonder how long it will be before some fundamentalist parents come ’round, guns a’blazin’ because “Teen Skepchick done turned ar preshus lil’ girl into a devil worshiper!” Or something along those lines.

(Oooh! and if it happens can I get Randi’s prize, ya think?)

    Secondly, congratulations and go Skepchicks!
