Live video chat Sunday, 3:00 Mountain tme

OK, looks like I’ll be doing the live video chat thing on Sunday, July 6, at 3:00 p.m. Mountain time (21:00 UT). I haven’t embedded a stream in this new bloggy hideaway, so we’ll see if this works.

As usual, if you see and hear me below talking about bending spoons, you’re all set.

Also as usual, I encourage people to particpate in the chat room on the UStream page; type "/nick John Hancock" to change your username.

Hmm, I’m not so sure that the countdown clock is working properly… It’s currently 1:30pm here in Australia, but the clock says that the live show is only 1 hour and 30 minutes away. I’m pretty sure I’m not in Mountain Time (and the live shows are usually at about 7am on monday mornings for me). :P The clocks always worked for me at the old blog location?

    Hmm.

Chris Owen: I just tried changing the clock on my computer, and the countdown changed as well. So it is obviously using client-side time. So it will show the countdown to 3PM July 6th local time, not the countdown to 2100 UT July 6.

Bah, I said that last bit wrong, but you know what I mean.

Nuts. I was afraid of that. I lost the link and code to the old countdown clock, and this one wasn’t clear on how it worked. I have no clue where I got the old one. :( I’ll keep looking.

Heh. Literally within seconds of posting that comment, i remembered I sent the link to the clock to someone. I searched my email, and voila!

This one does that too BA.

@gopher65 – Yeah, that’s what I was getting at with my post. It was counting to 3pm local time. Though, I was kinda hoping I was just wrong so I could watch the chat, I won’t be home when it actually starts. :P

@Phil Plait – This one works for me now, thanks. Too bad I won’t be around to watch the chat though. :(

Completely off topic, but I just want to thank you, Phil, for not spelling “voila” like the string instrument.

I don’t know whether it was deliberate Phil, but in my feedreader (Bloglines) I see a difference. I now see a link that says “Live .TV show provided by Ustream”, whereas previously the Ustream window showed up embedded – which was actually annoying because it would start to play when I just wanted to read other articles.

So the short version is: I prefer it this way!

I will be there. Still recovering from last night’s Dr Who finale. (sniff sniff)

Woohoo! Chat at 5pm ET/3PM MT! I’ll be there, for sure. :)

Hmmm, madge I haven’t seen it yet, We may have to watch before the chat so I don’t see any spoilers.

madge keeps her mouth shut. No spoilers here! :)

Hey, sorry for the informality, I just wanted to say one thing.
I’m in Arkansas, and am looking very forward to seeing you at Arkansas Governor’s School. From what I’ve read/heard of you, I can’t wait.
Thanks in advance for speaking to/with us.

I think your new mods are a little ban-happy in the chatroom, I got banned for mentioning 4ch** in reply to someone else.

Didn’t know the chans were dirty words in chat :-\

Thanks Phil. Great chat. Sorry i always have to duck out early. I have a long term sick husband to look after.

Thanks Phil as always! Great chat, even though there were lots of evil spammers (which is, of course, redundant). See ya next time!

Was able to watch the embedded video, sounds like the show should of been called spamalot.

Thanks from me too – first time I’ve tried this, I managed to see the live video but I couldn’t find the chat room. I set up an account to ask a question but I’m not sure I got that right either! Anyway, some interesting topics covered, and very informative.

Oh – if there is to be a UK TAM at some point, I just hope it isn’t in London! (Why does London always get all the attention, and the rest of the UK always misses out?) If there’s a meeting anywhere else in the UK I’ll try to get to it, but inside the boundary of the M25 I turn into a pillar of salt, or something. I don’t want to go there to find out! Seriously though, I’m a Londonophobe – it’s just too hectic a place for me. If you have any influence, please mention that there is more to the U.K. than London. That’s all!

Thanks for the chat. I was finally able to tune into one before it ended! (This can be tough with two not-as-Bigfeet running around the house on a weekend afternoon, but today friends kept them occupied.)

I hope someday you will visit the Pacific Northwest.

  22. 22.   Leigh Says:

Enjoyed the live chat today. I try to keep up with what everyone is saying. I’ll try to figure out how to log on by next time. When I tried it told me I was already logged on. I found myself as one of those numbered people, but didn’t want to miss anything long enough to figure out how to change my name. Is there a blogging for dummies?
And Elwood, I think the reason they always hold events in London is because you can reach London faster than my daily commute to work. That was envy, not scorn.

  23. 23.   Leigh Says:
    July 6th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

I agree Bigfoot. I’ll even kick in for the rain gear.

    Hi,

I wasn’t able to attend today. Was it recorded by chance?

I saw a spoof map of an “Typical American’s idea of Britain” once – it had just three main areas: London and Stratford (thanks to Shakespeare) with Scotland as a vague blob on top! Nowadays Cardiff might be stuck on the side thanks to all the Dr. Who mania, and I’m sure some Americans think we’re in the Middle East somewhere, but you get my drift…

As far as I’m concerned you could saw London and the entire SE off and let it sink into the Channel, I wouldn’t miss it!
