First, congrats to astrophysicist (and sometimes guitarist) Brian May for publishing his thesis. That’s cool.
Second, I can’t do the live video chat today. Too many things to do at that time, for one. For another, the AC is on the fritz, and it’s 100 F outside, meaning it’s like 85 in my office. That makes me grumpy and sweaty and my forehead will probably shine so strongly it’ll glare in the camera. Next week is the Galapagos cruise which will overlap two Sundays, so the video chat is on hiatus for a short time. I suspect I can do it again on August 24 — which is the anniversary of the launch of Hubble, so that’s appropriate.

That’s too bad about the chat. Go cool off somewhere and I guess we’ll see you with a tan in a few weeks.

Umm…BA, the Hubble was launched on April 24th.

If you are doing one on Aug. 24th it can be your ‘I’m off to Dragon*Con’ episode too. Won’t Richard Saunders be there with you too?

I’d like to pity you, but today is our 42nd day of triple digit temps so far this year!

Still, I envy you so much, Phil: It’s like -10ºC in the shoreline of Argentina and a little heat wouldn’t be bad now. Oh yeah, and the Galapagos trip.

Waybto go Brian (he ROCKS! in all ways) I would be really sorry there will be no live chat today but I have a sick husband to care for so i am not sorry that I won’t miss anything. Have a SUPERB time on the Galapalos (I am SO jealous I could SCREAM) TV here in UK has a bunch of programmes starting tomorrow to celebrate 200 years since Darwin’s birth! We will see you back here, relaxed, rejuvenated and tanned as all hell on your return

Dang. And I had a really good question for Phil as well.

No not the shiny head of doom! My bio teacher had that once.

Cool! You are doing a video chat as a birthday celebration for me! I will be 70 on August 24th. Oh, OK, go ahead and mention Hubble, too. Just keep in mind which is most important.

Yeah, Phil, where’d you get August out of April? Maybe you were thinking of the launch date for Servicing Mission 4. August 24 is pretty close to one of the earlier launch dates for SM4, but it’s been early October for a couple months now (currently Oct. 5). Which is a good thing because on August 24 the ACS repair hardware will still be in this big blue vacuum chamber here. Seems like a fair trade; 6 weeks later launch in exchange for ACS working again, wouldn’t you say?

It’s nice to see Brian finally getting the recognition he deserves. If you followed the link to Space.com; you might have noticed a poll for the best space song. I think a BA thread would probably be a better way to determine the best space song. The Space.com list is pretty foul.
David Bowie – Starman
Elton John – Rocket Man
Electric Light Orchestra – Fire on High, Mission (A New World Record)
