Ohio talk, September 13

This Saturday, September 13th, I’ll be at the Cincinnati Observatory in Ohio to participate in their annual SCOPE OUT event. I’ll be giving my Bad Astronomy talk — standing eggs on end and making fun of bad movies — from 6-8 p.m. as part of a dinner, and during the day there will be lots of astronomy activities for kids and adults. The whole schmeer goes from noon to 10:30 p.m., so there’s plenty of time to have fun and learn about the sky.

It’s open admission for the day, but for the dinner and talk you’ll need to make a reservation. I hope to see Ohioan BABloggees there!

So when are you going to be giving any talks in Texas, hopefully the Dallas / Fort Worth area? :D

I would love to go, but I haven’t been in Ohio for ages. Any chance you’ll be in the Panhandle of Florida area? We could really use you here!

Arrrghghghgh!!! You couldn’t give more than two day’s notice? There’s no way my registration would get there in time. I’m only a 4 hour drive away and it would be worth it. Unfortunately, it’s Thursday, and snail mail wouldn’t cut it to get my reservation in before Saturday. :(

Ah, so close! If I didn’t have anything else going on, I’d drive the couple of hours, but, alas, I’m booked. Any chance you want to swing by Columbus before or after? I know some skeptics willing to buy drinks!

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Plait as our keynote speaker.
There are a handful of dinner/lecture tickets still available.
If the combo tickets sell out, which looks likely, we will have lecture only tickets available for $5.00 per person. This could be a “standing room” only event!

Hopefully “drksky” can still make it.

    Looking forward to Saturday,

    Craig Niemi

DANG! I’d go but I have to earn Brownie points with The Company by golfing and dodging thunderstorms. Hope the weather holds out for the ‘scopes.

I wish I’d heard about this sooner. Two days would be cutting a bit close for me and Munchkin to be able to make it. Plus, I think there might be prior plans made for this weekend.

I just made reservations for the dinner over the phone. They’ll let you pay when you get there. I’m really looking forward to it!

You were at the Alberta Festival of Science last year, and I was wondering are you going to make another appearance at the next one, I believe it is in Feb. 2009? I would love to go, but need a little bit more notice this time, last time I couldn’t organize the trip from Edmonton.

I, like Colin, just made reservations on the phone! I’ll be there all day wearing a shirt asking about the “speed of dark.” I hope I get to meet you, Phil!

Oh I wish I could go to that. I lived on the grounds of that observatory for about a year when I was in grade school. The first time I saw Saturn was through the big scope in the main building. Lots of fond memories sledding down the back hill behind those building.

    Best of luck!

Hey, I could make Edmonton! My brother lives there, and I used to live there. i’d fly up there to something like that. Although Vancouver would be really cool. (Not as “cool” as Edmonton in February, though!) :)

    :) Matt:

I though it said, “I’ll be there all day wearing a skirt!” Well, that would get you noticed!

You should most definitely swing by Columbus. We’d love to have you.

Bah! Wrong end of Ohio! Although, my parents live there. I’ll shoot them an email and tell them to go for me.

Wish I’d known about this sooner…okay, time to check the couch cushions for gas money…

One way or t’other, I gotta get down there…just hope the weather holds…

I live in Cincinnati, but I’ve had an all-day family thing on the calendar for months. Any chance you’ll be back in the area soon?

I’d like to see you sometime, do you have a schedule of your appearances somewhere? Cincinnati is the same state as mine, but way on the opposite end from me and Elyria. I want to know when you’ll be up by the lake and Cleveland someday.
