Want: the W00t shirt edition

Oh, this is too funny:

Shirt from Woot.com

I don’t even know if the shirt is still available; woot.com usually only sells things for one day and then moves on. But I like the idea anyway.

Tip o’ the hat — uh, shirt — to The Noisy Astronomer.

I wonder if anyone has done any calculations towards finding out if all the moons are original to saturn or some are captured bodies.

So Saturn’s rings are just moon poop?

Yeah, the shirt’s still available…you just have to know how to access it.

    Which is right here. http://shirt.woot.com/Friends.aspx?k=6772

It’s a little more expensive than getting it day of, but it’s still available.

And, speaking of a semi-prolific consumer of woot shirts…man, those things are bloody comfy ;)

You can get that shirt now, at the link you have behind the image. Alas, it is for $15 instead of $10 since you missed the boat on the first day, but it can still be yours :)

Currenly, 60 moons of Saturn are known (remember that rings are no more and no less than an aggregate of moonlets). From the 60 moons, 22 are regular satellites (ellipsoidal) and 38 are irregular. 30 irregular moons follow a retrograde orbit. Most irregular retrograde moons are in outer orbits, so most of them are supposed to be captured bodies. It is taken for granted that major moons (22) were originally formed in orbit of the proto-Saturn 4500 Myr ago.

Anyway, the Moon is a heavier gravitational burden for Earth, than are all this moons and moonlets for Saturn. So the T-shirt picture is unaccurate.
