MAJOR DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS BELOW.
I AM WAY WAY SERIOUS.
DO NOT READ THIS IS YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE A GINORMOUS SPOILER.
IN FACT, EVERYONE LEAVE NOW.
[Looks around. Anyone left? OK.]
AAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Well, crap.
It’s official. David Tennant is leaving the role of Doctor Who.
Series 5 (what we call "season 5" in the US) will have the usual Christmas Special, then four more special episodes, and then a new actor will take over the role. Speculation is rampant about Who it will be (haha) but nothing has been confirmed yet.
I have something of a man crush on David Tennant, and I will be truly sorry to see him go. He has brought a depth and emotion to the role that beautifully ties in the pathos of the character that I need as an adult, with the swashbuckling nonsense I loved so much as an adolescent.
Adjusting to a new actor will be very difficult, but that’s the price of love for the show. I wonder if they’ll establish a new companion before this happens?
Sigh. OK, I can deal with this. And who knows; I like Christopher Eccleston a lot, but wound up liking Tennant more. Maybe the next person will be even better.
But still. Sigh.
Tip o’ the sonic screwdriver to Jason Hanford-Smith.

I’m mostly amused by the fact that Tennant and The Beeb spent so much effort this past few months denying the rumors only to let the cat out now. I’ve been figuring he’d want to get out sometime before 2011, so this isn’t too traumatic for me.
I am, however, looking for a foxhole in which to hide until the fanwank blows over…
October 29th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
OH NOES!! This is horrible! BUT hopefully he will go on to other shows/movies/theater that I can still see him in. My, he is gorgeous.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
i heard Paterson Joseph might have a go at it: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0430667/
i see him being and excellent choice cause he rocked hard in the 90s Neverwhere movie.
i still hate to see Tennant leave, though.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
I’m OK with that. I actually liked the Eccleston Doctor a little more; Tennant was a bit hyperacitve at times.
After watching the first season I thought they would continue changing (aka. regenerating) the doctor annually anyway.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Phil, I like you. I genuinely do. Seriously. But for the life of me I can’t understand this strange attraction David Tennant has over you. Combined with Russell T. Davies writing, Tennant and his “make goofy faces at the camera” method of acting have brought Doctor Who to an all time low. Oh sure, I blame Davies’ The Doctor As Savior scripts more than I do Tennant but I for one will not be at all sorry to see Tennant go. And for that matter, Eccleston brought more depth of character and pathos to Doctor Who than even Sylvester McCoy. I can only hope they find someone of Eccleston’s caliber to take on the roll.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Will maybe they will get Wil Wheaton to be the next Doctor. I do not really see it.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
SPOILER: The Doctor gets caught in a dimensional rift and ends up on the deck of the USS Enterprise. Captain Picard then promptly tells him to gtfo.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
I agree with Warren Ellis in re the 11th Doctor. I want Idris Elba!
October 29th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
SPOILER: Adam Savege as the doctor, in the first episode everything blows up.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:49 pm
HOT HOT RUMOR THIS JUST IN!!
JEAN-LUC PICARD TO PLAY DOCTOR WHO!
Don’t believe the people trying to shout down this rumor - MI5 is working to hide truth. It’s a typical government conspiracy.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
I quite like the idea of having Paterson Joseph as the next doctor.
October 29th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
I understand the need for you to warn about the spoiler, but I really can’t imagine a Doctor Who fan getting all the way to the regeneration scene at Christmas 2009 and not knowing that he’s leaving! That would take some serious measures… like not watching TV, or using the Internet for 14 months!
October 29th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
I just read about this on the BBC and came straight here to see if you’d blogged about it.
It is a shame, it’s come to the point where you can’t imagine anyone else as the Doctor. Even when I think of the Christopher Eccleston episodes, I seem to remember them with Tennant as the Doctor for some reason. I hope the next choice is a good one.
@Joe, Paterson Joseph would probably make a great doctor. I loved his characters in Green Wing and Peep Show.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
It’s the nature of the beast. We’ll just have to adjust.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
@Davidlpf:
Ha! That would be, umm… interesting. Did you see Wil Wheaton on Criminal Minds last week? He played a seriously disturbed Motel owner. I almost forgot about Wesley Crusher, until the very last scene of his… LOL I wonder if it was an inside joke?
October 29th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Sorry, I too prefer Christopher Eccleston. I don’t know who I’d like to see in that role, but definitely not Ricky Gervais or Daniel Radcliffe.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
Some say that he have never stepped on the cracks in the pavement, all we know is that he will be the next Doctor Who: The Stig.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
No, I have not seen him on Crimina Minds yet.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Maybe this will soften the blow a tiny bit: David Tennant portrays Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington in the new BBC film “Einstein and Eddington”.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einstein_and_Eddington
October 29th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
opps crimimal minds not crimina minds.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Well, three or four years as The Doctor seems to be about average for actors who play him. I’m just wondering what they’ll do once they get to the 13th Doctor and realize he has no regenerations left.
They’ll probably handwave something in, I’m sure…
October 29th, 2008 at 5:14 pm
@Mena totally agree.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
I like Eccelstons accent-perfect Time Lord. Tennant was pretty cool as well with his “Yeah…well…” phrase. I hope the next one is just as good.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Oh, this is a sad and dark day. Knowing it had to come one day doesn’t make it any easier now that it’s arrived. But finding out from you, Phil, softened the blow a little. You’re right - maybe the next Doctor will be amazing. Tomorrow I can begin to hope for the future. But tonight is for mourning.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I went ahead and read this post simply because I had a gut feeling this was going to be the content. *insert unhappy DT fan face here* I would loved to have had him continue, but really, I’m not terribly surprised. With his stage work doing him fine, he’s got lots to look forward to. (sucky for us, stuck here on the other side of the Big A ocean, not being able to attend the plays, though).
Funny thing is, I’ve only recently gone and watched al his video diaries and even from the get go, I could tell he loved the work, but was also a bit overwhelmed by it. My first reaction: Well, he ain’t gonna be around for long. Sadly it’s true, but then that’s the nature of the Dr. Some of the fun — and trepidation — is wondering who he will be regenerated as this time….
October 29th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
I hated Tennant with a passion I cannot describe. Maybe now he’s going I can watch it again.
October 29th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Ah nuts, they have a lot of story to fill in then, what with the story of the library.
Seems a lot to work in.
Also, Ecclestion was a much cooler Doctor as far as I’m concerned.
Tennat was cool, don’t get me wrong. But Ecclestion was… well. Awsome.
October 29th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Re: series/season, here in Australia people don’t often use the word “season”, but I was a member of the Australian Doctor Who fan club back in the late eighties and their publication used “season” all the time - that’s where I first learned the usage. It’s odd that a word which is generally not usedin Britain and Australia should be used extensively by the fan group of a British show. It’s a useful word, allowing a distinction between “series final” i.e. it’s never coming back and “season final” i.e. it’ll be back next year.
Oh, and for the record … Eccleston - Bad. Tennant - Good. Davies - Bad.
October 29th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Going a different way, how about Georgia Moffett in some sort of they-must-merge-to-save-both-their-lives kind of story?
October 29th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I’m just gonna say one name:
James Nesbitt.
Think of him playing a darker, Eccleston-like Doctor, with that Tom Baker craziness surfacing from time to time…
October 29th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Damn. I was kinda hoping he’d beat Tom Baker’s record. Or at least Pertwee’s!
October 29th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Yeah, I heard about Tennant’s departure. He said that when he signed on as the Doctor that he originally planned on doing three series, not “outstay(ing) his welcome” (couldn’t really see that happening, personally). Hate to see him go (have a bit of a “man crush” on him meself), but excited to see who the next Doctor will be.
October 29th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
@Wildride: That just sounds dirty!
October 29th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Not surprising that he’s leaving, the finale of the last series felt like a conclusion anyway, with all the companions gone. Clear the decks for the new creative team and start over again. It’s too bad Davies wasted a regeneration just so Rose could have her Doctor. I hope the stories aren’t so damn Earth-centric going forward, it’s always frustrated me that they have special effects more advanced than guys in rubber suits and…they end up in Victorian England. Oh well, it’ll give me something to watch before LOST starts up for –ta da– season 5.
October 29th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Arrgh. I wish I stopped reading this post when I was warned to stop.
I liked both Tennant and Eccleston a lot. I thought Tennant’s acting was superb. Tennant is my kids favorite (they’re always disappointed when a rerun doesn’t have him in it). I don’t think I’ll tell them about this and let them be surprised in 2010. They can at least enjoy Tennant in the specials. Thats one of the blessings of not reading blogs and showbusiness blogs.
Hey, maybe that can get that guy playing Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movie to play the Doctor! Or better yet, William Shatner! That would be something. “yes, man - is - a - killer. But he can decide — not today!”
OK. Maybe that wouldn’t work.
Hmmm. But maybe Bob Newhart…
October 29th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
I always thought both Eccleston and Tennant brought a humanity to the Doctor that gave him a dimension the others never really accomplished. (I admit, I haven’t seen the McCoy years and would love to) Both of them brought the Companion relationships out of the closet beautifully I thought, but with Billie Piper to work with how hard could that be? I did think both of them did the essential menace of the inherent power of a Time Lord well, but that Tennant exercised it far more, and in more satisfying ways. The scene where he tells the Vashta Narada in The Library, “look me up…” is priceless. I’m sorry to see him go, just as I was sorry to see Eccleston leave, but a Time Lord’s gotta regenerate, to misquote the old “Showboat” song…
There are dozens of great actors out there who could do the role justice, I hope they find one. The first two of the new incarnation have been great.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
@ llewelly: Oh, be still my throbbing— oops, never mind. TMI.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
I’m a little concerned how quickly they’re going through doctors in the new series. They only have three left; what then?
October 29th, 2008 at 11:14 pm
Sean Connery. Nuff said. Maybe they could borrow from another favorite BBC series (no, not Ardal O’Hanlan) - Jack Davenport, Ben Miles, or Richard Coyle from Coupling!
Personally, I like both of the newest Doctors. While Eccleston had real intensity, Tannant definitely had his moments as well. The newer direction of more dramatic stories, with all the darkness and menace (as above, nice phrasing) of the Last Time Lord (or is he….?). They have done a good job portraying the essential sadness, lonliness and, well, tragedy, of the ultimate loner, especially now that they laid the ghost of Rose to rest.
Hopefully Torchwood will come back soon as well (I haven’t heard word yet one way or another). Another great spin-off that had some very deep and intense storylines and moments. The seaon 2 ending was emotional and also intense. Funny that that word would be associated with the Doctor - the older ones just didn’t seem to be that way (although it could just be my growing up as well).
October 29th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Adam - what do you mean, three left? Does he have some new limitation on regenerations? According to the old series, he actually passed his 12th a while back, which had been the old limit for Time Lords. Am I missing something?
October 30th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Why is everybody guessing that it will be a man?
October 30th, 2008 at 1:13 am
My daughter will be devastated. On the plus side the BBC ran a trailer last night for “Einstein and Eddington” so it is on its way.
I remember being traumatised by the episode that ended with William Hartnell apparently dead. We’d never heard of regeneration in those days.
October 30th, 2008 at 1:42 am
Shane Killian = genius!
Jame Nesbitt would be perfect.
But what about David Walliams?
Or Billie Piper?
October 30th, 2008 at 2:49 am
So much for spoilers. The Sydney Morning Herald the story as a headline for their entertainment section…

October 30th, 2008 at 3:12 am
@Badger3k
According to the old series, he actually passed his 12th a while back…
Step away from the Brain of Morbius!
Seriously, best not to open that can of worms…
October 30th, 2008 at 3:15 am
As for it being a spoiler…he announced it at a televised awards ceremony. Not really a spoiler in my book.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:30 am
Nesbitt would be great!
to steal a line from Chris Ecclestone’s Doctor:
“Lots of places have a North!”
Of course, BA would have to grok the difference between England and the UK - very dangerous calling an Northern Irishman ‘English’.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:34 am
This saddens me. I was EVER so hopeful for a full season of him working with Stephen Moffett. I really wanted to see with the Moffetmeister and DT would do for a season 5 finale, since RTD has done some brilliant yet simultaneously disappointing (on the level of WTFness, in a couple cases - Jesus Doctor? Billions of people thinking “DOCTOR” makes him gold and sparkly and float? The hell.) and Stephen Moffett has only gotten to do small one or two part stories that had almost no flaws (there are debates about Forest of the Dead, but I am firmly in the IT WAS AWESOME camp)…
Anyways, if he doesn’t get a huge part in an upcoming television show in the next 5 to 10 years that I can fall in love with and watch his character grow on the regular, I will be sad. Seeing him in the movies (was Secret Smile technically a movie?) and super short series thingys like Blackpool is fun, but with tv shows, you get to watch the characters grow and change - or at least enjoy watching them for hours and hours.
October 30th, 2008 at 3:52 am
Oh my. He will be missed. Very much. But as others already said - it’s the nature of Doctor Who. And it might be a good thing that Steven Moffat can start completely from scratch. I have a lot of faith in Moffat. But still … 10th Doctor, you were brilliant.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:57 am
I miss Tennant already, hope Robert Carlyle will get the role. Francis Who Begbie.
October 30th, 2008 at 4:58 am
*sniff*
I was hoping Tennet would match Tom Baker’s time as the Doctor.
Oh well.
Hoping the new, 11th Doctor will be as good.
October 30th, 2008 at 5:28 am
A few weeks ago I saw Paul McGillion (Carson Beckett from Stargate Atlantis) on a sci-fi convention in Belgium and he told the audience that he’d love to be the next Doctor.
October 30th, 2008 at 5:48 am
Couple of things:- Brain of Morbius seemed to show the Doctor way past regeneration 12 BUT The Five Doctors has Doc 1 saying “There are five of me now”. We can probably assume DT is Doc 10. The limit as been 12 regenerations but with the Time Lords gone who’s to say that still applies. It’d be the easiest thing in the world to give him unlimited regenerations. The Master was offered a new regeneration cycle in The Five Doctors (assuming the Time Lords weren’t being shifty gits). If you go by the number of separate stories DT has passed Jon Pertwee.
October 30th, 2008 at 6:18 am
I had hoped John Simm would do it, but then they cast him as the Master last year…
But let’s be honest - there’s only one man that can play the Doctor now…
Robbie Coltrane.
October 30th, 2008 at 6:30 am
ROBBIE COLTRANE???
I can see him making an excellent Meddling Monk, but the Doctor???
October 30th, 2008 at 7:54 am
Robbie Coltrane? That would be … different. But hey, why not. I’d watch it
And Paul McGillion? I’d love that, too.
October 30th, 2008 at 7:55 am
Hmmm. A female Doctor? Now, that would be a cool twist.
Seems there are a lot of really good actors of Scots origin(Tennant, Connery, etc). Don’t these guys have anything better to do, than learn to act? How about getting the bloody starship up and running???
No, I mean for REAL!!!
Ok, maybe not this generation.
Unlike in the States, Brit actors seem to have a fine disregard of being Icons. Here, we tend to lionize the character, forgetting there’s just a human under the mask. I hope Tennant can walk down the bloody street w/o being mobbed by adoring fans.
Anticipating the new Dr. with baited breath(now, how does that work? Do we eat something exotic to bait the breath? ANd where’s the hook?)
Sorry to see you moving on David. I’ll be looking for you in some future stories.
GAry 7
October 30th, 2008 at 8:31 am
Maybe the doctor will degenerate and Christopher Ecclestone can return
October 30th, 2008 at 9:00 am
I’d definitely like James Nesbitt. He was brilliant as Murphy!
My first choice would be Michael Shanks, but that’ll never happen. ::sigh::
Actually, Mark Harmon would be good too. 8-D

October 30th, 2008 at 11:40 am
What about the Valyard?
October 30th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Regarding what they’ll do when they hit 13 (David Tennant’s Doctor is officially, in canon, considered to be the 10th Doctor — they’re ignoring “Brain of Morbius” and acknowledging the Fox TV movie), it’s worth mentioning that the Master ran out of regenerations quite some time ago. Evidently there are ways of restarting a Time Lord’s cycle of regenerations, or possibly giving them new regenerations, though for whatever reason, it is not ordinarily done. Maybe it was illegal, or very very risky from a medical standpoint, or hideously expensive, or required the sacrifice of fifty LOLCats…. That’s never been explained. But the Master survived past his thirteenth incarnation by stealing bodies. The High Council offered him a complete new regenerative cycle at one point in exchange for performing a task, but were never able to follow through on it. In the novel “Final Frontier”, the Master got a complete new regenerative cycle courtesy of some aliens with expertise in genetic engineering. But his ability to regenerate in “Utopia” is never explained. Presumably, the Time Lords finally did follow through on their promise (from “The Five Doctors”), perhaps in order to enlist his help against the Daleks.
In any case, if the Master could beat 13, I’m sure the Doctor could too. It all depends on how creative the writers are.
October 30th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Series 5?
More like 31. Sheesh.
October 30th, 2008 at 11:53 am
BTW, some Doctor actor statistics (assuming Tennant does all four specials in 2009, as had previously been reported, though as Davies is still in charge at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything):
Average Doctor lifespan: 3.2 seasons, 20.3 stories, 76.4 episodes
Ranking by number of seasons: Tom Baker (7), Jon Pertwee (5), David Tennant (4), William Hartnell/Patrick Troughton/Peter Davison/Sylvester McCoy (3), Colin Baker (2), Christopher Eccleston/Paul McGann (1)
Ranking by number of episodes: Tom Baker (178), William Hartnell (135), Jon Pertwee (128), Patrick Troughton (119), Peter Davison (69), David Tennant (47), Sylvester McCoy (42), Colin Baker (32), Christopher Eccleston (13), Paul McGann (1)
Ranking by number of stories: Tom Baker (42), David Tennant (33), William Hartnell (29), Jon Pertwee (24), Patrick Troughton (21), Peter Davison (20), Sylvester McCoy (12), Colin Baker (11), Christopher Eccleston (10), Paul McGann (1)
The average age of a Doctor (meaning the age of the actor at the time their first episode transmits) is 41.6. The oldest was William Hartnell, at age 55. The youngest was Peter Davison, at age 30. Tennant was the second-youngest, having taken the role at age 34.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who for 30 years, becoming a fan of Tom Baker at the age of 14 when Time Life first released them in 1978 to PBS in the states.
I was traumatized by Tom Baker regenerating into Peter Davidson. But when we finally got them in ‘83 (we had to wait for YEARS back then). But then we finally got Hartnell, and Troughton, and Pertwee, and finally caught up, only to have to wait for Collin Baker and McCoy again, I realized three things. 1-Greatest casting in television, they were ALL the Doctor. 2- I now longer get devastate by a regeneration but find it an exciting time to see how a new actor will add to the mythos, and 3- I am rather odd in that the most frequent question i get when people find out I’m a who fan is which doctor is my favorite. That’s a strange question to me. That’s like asking to me which is my favorite parent, or my favorite sibling. I can’t answer it, I LOVE them all. I don’t have a favorite. True, Tom Baker will always be MY doctor, but he’s not exactly my favorite.
Now I do have favoirte eras. As well as Sylvester McCoy played the doctor, his stories sucked… The last years of Jon Pertwee, and the first years of Tom Baker are my favorite eras.
Would I say Eccelston was betteer or worse then Tennant. NO!!! They were both the doctor and I love them both. I wish Eccelston would have stuck around longer, but oh well. As for Tennant leaving, I was prepared. 3 years is the average lifespan of a Doctor.
Personally I would like to see an older doctor (perhaps even a woman) and go back to the ‘boy/girl’ companions but I’m thinking that will never happen again.
October 30th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Ian:
In defense of anyone calling it Series 5, that is actually what the BBC is calling it. This was deliberate, partly because it allows them to smoothly pick up a new numbering scheme for their production codes (”Partners in Crime”, for instance, is episode 4.1) to replace the letter-based codes used for the old Dr Who serials (all six episodes of “Genesis of the Daleks”, to pick one at random, carry the production code 4E). Given that the format is completely different now, that really makes sense.
It also neatly avoids the question of whether or not Paul McGann’s single appearance in 1996 counts as a season.
October 30th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
As for the Brain of Morbius thing, I know the producers at the time said it was other incarnations of the Doctor, but no other producers seem to consider that canon and it wasn’t clear on the screen.
I think the fan consensus is that they were Morbius’s incarnations, which is what I assumed when I first saw the episode. This makes more sense as they show up towards the end; remember that this was a battle of wits between the Doctor and Morbius, and the Doctor LOST.
October 30th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I always thought that they were Morbius’s incarnations as well.
I liked both Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant and I hope the new guy does just as good a job. (Though, having discovered Doctor Who when it hit PBS all those years ago, I have to say that Tom Baker will probably always be my favorite….)
October 30th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
@Maura: Any off-duty “merging” involving David and Georgia, which might make things seem dirty, is none of my concern. I just think it would be cool for her to take over the role, especially since her dad already played it, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen gender changing regeneration (regenderation, as it were). Although they could just do that and ignore the previous character as with Colin Baker.
Oh, and trust me, I could have phrased it a whole lot worse.
October 31st, 2008 at 7:16 am
I go all the way back to Bill Hartnell… and for me, Eccleston and then in the top slot David Tennant really nailed it, and made appointment viewing out of it. I think it rather too soon to be considering who’s to be next, but I’d like to see Bill Nighy (who was offered it before, I understand, but was unable to commit) or Patrick Stewart at the Tardis controls. Hugh Laurie, if he could be dragged away from that thing he does in the US, would be interesting.
But whatever and whoever, it’s going to be interesting in 2010, with Russel T gone, Julie Garnder gone, David gone… and the excellent Mr Moffat as the new show runner.
All I have to do is live long enough to see it!
October 31st, 2008 at 11:13 pm
Noooooooooooooooooooo!
I knew this day would come, and i am already crying. Its up to the 11th doctor, hopefully someone just as cute will play the role. (Johnny Depp)Lol. Fail. I hope hees younger, it appeals much more to the young audience. Oh and, Eccleston was ok, but Tennant was fantastic! Ima thinkin that drunk guy from Black Books, now that would be a laugh. I can just see the assistants face drop as he regenerates:)
November 1st, 2008 at 10:52 am
A sad day for all that like David Tennant, have to admit i found him to be the best doctor so far. He will be sorely missed by all his fans around the world. I just wish he could have stuck around for a little longer as Stephen Moffat is a fantastic writer so would have loved to see him involved in some of the storylines. However, please just keep our fingers crossed that “his current girlfriend”, does not appear as the new companion, its a bit like covering old ground and a new pair of eyes would revive the show, not like I didnt love it from the beginning. Chris Eccleston brought a new generation of audience with him which followed as the series moved forward. Good luck David to all that you do in the future, we will look forward to seeing you on our screens whatever you may do.
November 4th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
This morning on his radio show, Terry Wogan hinted that on the BBC’s Children in Need night, they’d be announcing the new Dr Who. You can lsiten again to his show here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/wogan/ You’ve only a week to catch it mind, and, I’m afraid, I forgot when in the show he said it.
Given that there will be a 2 minute prelude to The Next Doctor, it makes you wonder if it’ll be more than just the name of an actor…
November 9th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Well, the nature of Doctor Who is that the Doctor changes now and then. Now I’m actually an American who had never heard of the Doctor or the TARDIS until I saw the first season of the new series on PBS here in the states. I had been a fan of Christopher Eccleston for a while, and I thought he was brilliant at the role, and was quite sad to see him go. But now, even after watching all of the original episodes, it’s David Tennant’s interpretation of the role is the one I like best. And while it’s sad to see him go, I’m sure they’ll cast someone totally brilliant who will do an amazing job. Personally, I’m still reeling from Catherine Tate leaving the show, even though it was part of a great plot twist that made Donna even more important in the story…I think they should rationalize some way for her to come back at least for an episode or two in the future. I mean, they brought Marfa freaking Jones back over and over again, I think Donna Noble deserves the same.

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me! I’ve been a Who fan since I was old enough to watch TV, maybe 1980 or so. I was lukewarm on Eccleston, but David Tennant drove the nail into the coffin for me. I tried and tried to like it, and forced myself to sit through 80% of his run before admitting that I wasn’t enjoying one minute of it. The writing is dull and predictable, the premises more absurd than any seen in the 1980’s, and DT just alternates between smirking like an idiot and going over the top with panic. Plain awful. I was glad to see Rose go (least likable companion ever, IMO–why would he ever love her?) and glad to see RTD go, too. Now with Tennant out, I can actually have hope again. I really hope it won’t be dashed this time.

Wil Wheaton, oh hell no.
Patrick Stewart, bring him on. I would love to have Stewart have a go at being the Doctor. His skills and passion would continue the success of the series. The sexy factor would still be there along with proven sustaining acting ability. The youth factor can only go so far. What, is 12 going to be the Doctor in diapers?
Wheaton would tank it on so many levels. BBC: Reconsider.

Going with the flow of the 21st century it will be either a woman or a man of color.

You lot are light weights, I’ve seen every Doctor since the first one in 64, I was 4 at the time and by far the best Doctor was Patrick Troughton, his Doctor had depth and a real sense of mystery about him you really wondered if he was really from outside space and time, Pertwee made him into some kind of uncle thespian and Tom Baker some other kind of thespian the rest probably aren’t worth mentioning. I do agree though the last two have been the best since the 60’s. As long as they stay away from the hacks and soup stars we should be OK.

I have seen doctors come and go since Tom Baker. I was so excited to know that the Doctor returned when Eccleston took on the part. To be able to see this BBC show again meant so much. However, I was truly po-ed that Tennant denied his leaving just to announce it at the Awards in October. I don’t understand this attitude of need to get going before I am stereo-typed. It really burns my ass to know that actors have to feel this way and not understand that maybe it is better to be remembered as a great character they portrayed for a long period of time than forgotten about because they jumped from part to part. Look at Christopher Reeves, the man was proud to be known as ‘Superman’ and still played a numerous role interesting characters. I know that the Doctor regenerating is what makes the Doctor live forever but people love having a familiar face and this familiar face NEEDED to stay a bit longer!
The other thing that bothers me is, what about all the already ‘opened’ story lines? All this change… Evidently Moffat is just like Joel Schumacher and the Batman Series. Moffat seems to be more interested in what he wants to do with the character than what the fans want to see happen. Moffat is being paid to provide and yet, maybe he has given us some really good story lines so far… what I just feel that all he did was open up a can of worms and let you come to your own conclusions instead of wrapping up a story line. This is okay but fans want certain answers.
I was hoping for a special or a movie with Tennant reliving the Time War since he has given so much to that story line. It would be nice to know more about that particular point in his life. What about Rose? One thing on Rose, why was she thought as being a Time Lord? All the mentioning of her abilities and such… it would be interesting. A very unhappy Doctor Who fan!

I heard that Slyvestor McCoy(the 8th Doctor) will be playing one of the companions and the other compainion will be the recent Doctors daughter Jenny(Rebkah Staton)
December 3rd, 2008 at 4:14 pm
My vote is for Scottish comedian Billy Connolly
December 4th, 2008 at 8:57 am
I think Paul McCartney should be the Doctor
December 4th, 2008 at 8:59 am
WOW! That name is perfect for you.
December 4th, 2008 at 8:59 am
nvm
December 7th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Well these are my thoughts on it. The Xmas special will have a Doctor from the Future but this will be in a Parrallel Universe. I don’t understand why they keep on rewriting scripts. Lets face it THe Doctor said he could not go too and from Parallel Universes like the old days as the Time Lords controlled it and now they were gone. So how they are going to explain this is beyond me.
Now for the fun parts. Tennant will to a Cameo in Season 5 after he regenerates possibly with Rose and he will be playing The Human DOctor, aka Journeys End. So stay tuned for that.
I believe that the ring donna had on her hand is significant to the plot. It shimmered in Silence In The Library and Journeys End. Some Fans are saying I am stupid and it was just a trick of the light, but I bet to differ. Also Wilfred Mott = TimeLord wft. So figure that one out. It still needs to be explained who took the Masters Ring, Rani???

December 7th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
I think you wil see Donna coming back. I think that she is not all she seems. The directors cut has her stop what she is doing and listen as The Tardis takes off. So basically she has not lost all her memory.
The ring is not the Masters we know that. But it could well be a disguised ring. Either way the ring is shown a lot in the trailer and it is shown a lot in Journeys End. So I believe it has significance.
People laughed when I suggested that Rose would go with a Clone Doctor and that the DOctor was split in two with 2 different suits. Yet they laughed on the other side of their faces when it came on. I was so close at guessing the plot that the BBC deleted my comments.
The url to a youtube video I put together about the ring is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCVTrK40fc0
December 8th, 2008 at 2:36 am
There for it all makes sense. The Rani took over as a child and grew up as Donna. Using The Camelian Arch just like The DOctor and The Master have. But the Time Ladies use a ring. By taking all the names given you get Sylvia Rani dewfd which I think means that Rani is Bad Wolf. Rose became Bad Wolf by absorbing the Tardis Time Vortex and The Rani has done by Absorbing the Hand from the Tardis. It makes sense.
December 8th, 2008 at 2:36 am
The ring is the key. As it shimmers it rewrites her biology and she becomes the rani. Wilfred Mott is Time Lord WFT. But what does WFT stand for. Waiting for Time. WOLF HAS WF IN IT BUT NO T. BAD WOLF HAS WF IN IT BUT NO T. So if Wilfred Mott is Bad Wolf there is still the T is explain. We already have Time Lord so we can’t have it again. But take all their names together Silvia WIlfred and Donna, We have Rani leaving silvia wfed d. or Rani dewfd which I think means Wolf in Welsh.
December 8th, 2008 at 2:37 am
My theory is quite simple when it comes to the Master’s ring being picked up. Who do we know that loves the colour red, has had romantic affairs and working relationships with both the Master and the Doctor…and would know exactly when and where the remains of the Master, one of the last Time Lords, were burned? My answer: The Rani. RTD has not revealed as to whether or not the Rani is going to appear, but other crew members have shrugged and looked sly when questioned on the matter.
December 8th, 2008 at 2:37 am
Of course this could all be speculation but thats my input. I think we will see the plot with the ring played out. We all know Donnas ring is different to the one picked up from the fire. But I think that is delibarate to throw the viewer off. If it looked the same then the whole plot would have been spoilt.
December 12th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
I don’t care who will be the next doctor, or other rumours. Tennant was good and all. Anyway this shows still good. But I have no idea what’s going on exactly in the next series/seasons. I watch it since the beginning, I mean the BEGINNING, fluck I’m old (70+). So just keep bringing good story. Since I saw the 2minutes show in in something call TUBE. I wonder it’s time parallel, or dimension, etc. But we will see. As for now, I wan’t more time parallel/dimension/clone/blowing up story line. =) Especially more Doctor V.S. Doctor or Master or other Time Lord!..OK that’s for now. I got a book to write. Later.
December 15th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
I really hope they find some no-name-struggling actor to play the doctor next. One that looks really hot in a goofy suit…. I really can’t see “Harry Potter” or some of the others playing my hero. (Besides Harry is just toooooo young.)
What would be a really cool twist is to bring Christopher Eccleston back. I’d like to see the spin on that episode….
Toodles for now…
December 18th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I have been a fan since 1978 in california, I thougt Christopher Eccleston Was great however the writing was far better in the Jon Pertwee-Tom Baker era. How about Graham Norton for the new Doctor. He would be hilarious. Definitely a pacifist forced to fight evil. Not to mention the humor he would bring to the role.
December 19th, 2008 at 9:02 am
I for one have always been sad that Eccleston left. Tennant did a fine job for the most part, but he gets a little “twitchy” for my taste. I also can’t help but think, “Barty Crouch Jr.!” every time I see him.
I hope they choose well…
December 23rd, 2008 at 2:38 pm
There is a present second doctor which everyone is ignoring. Donna’s husband might be searching for her. He knows she is real. If he finds a way to speak with her. The Doctor-Donna will come out again. Perhaps this is what the second doctor is.
December 25th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Well Merry Christmas!
I’ve just finished watching Doctor Who speacial on BBC iplayer. I must say i enjoyed it a lot! But, it wasn’t what i expected, they always seem to suprise me!
I am gutted that they are having a gap year! What a blooming let down.
And i know what you mean about Tennant, i loved him sinse the beginning, he’s so … wats the word, dashing!
I hope that they bring his daughter back in the next series, that will be fun to watch.
My only wish this christmas is that they can find someone as good as David (and as better looking), though, i won’t hold my breath.
Have a happy new year xxxx
December 26th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
the one thing i want to know is this hartnell orignal, then regen 1 then 2 the baker 3 then davis 4 then baker 5 mccoy 6 then 7 then 8 now nine this will be 10 2 regs left or are the writters going to ignore the old stuff (like they did to kill off the timelords which in my opinion was STUPID!) and make him have more regenerations hey writter find away to bring back back old gaillfrey i miss rommana!
December 28th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
I heard once the doctors regenerations are up they’re going to kill him off and replace him with jenny thats why they made her character in the first place. If they kill him off I’m never watching the show again
December 28th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Oh and tennant is my fav doctor so said to see him go but they could always bring him back. Cause Doctor 10.5 will always be him so hope they bring him back after a couple of years or so with Rose of cause.=)
December 29th, 2008 at 4:22 am
no more regens..just a hand off
What they should do is he meets himself… and at the end of the episode the new doctor gets in his tardis and dematerilize .. no regeneration..just a hand off… of the torch..that way ii doesn’t say when he regenerates.. then do like a season or two with the new doctor and then if tennant wants to return they pass the torch back….so to speak… like in the christmas special.. no regeneration..see the new doctor stories and leave it open for old actor to come back as the doctor ..that way the series last lobger then 4 more regens..if was done like that it could have 22 episodes in a season and last ten to 30 years more
December 29th, 2008 at 5:16 am
neuralgourmet you have no damn idea what a good doctor is! david tennant was one of the best and it will be sad to see him go.
December 29th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I am very sad to hear David Tennant is leaving the show. He is the best Doctor so far apart from Christopher Eccilson. I am just really confused about the negative comments made about Tennant. How can you not like him. He is amazing. There have been a lot of comments talking about Tennant saying that he is the worst doctor and has brought the show down. But I totally disagree. He is a fantastic actor and has brought a lot to the show and tbh will be very missed in the show. He’s also very good-looking
December 29th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
I have got to agree with Sophie about his looks. Oh my god. If they can find someone better looking then I will be really shocked. I also realised whilst reading Sophies comment that there has been a lot of bad cristism towards Tennant. The only reason people say they hate him is because they are jealous of his success - or his brilliant looks. Or they prefered Ecilsson or another doctor to him and somewho blame Tennant for there departure. They left the show by choice and happened to rengenerate into a even better doctor. Tennant is the best. I also disagree that Ecilsson is one of thhe best. He joined the show only because of Davie (Who in my opinion isn’t that great either) and had no intention of staying there. He was good while he lasted but in interviews around the time of the first season he sounded bored and he seemed careless.
December 29th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
emm..for anyone calling it a season I would like to stay it is a blooming series. Doctor who is a british program and would like to stay british. So, you americans who are trying to call it a “SEASON” then don’t.
January 1st, 2009 at 12:36 pm
I think that the roles worked perfectly, chris was a good doctor at the begining as he was dark and andgry, more of a warrior, but then David was the next doctor and has just a bit of insanity about him as does the master(but the master has more… alot more XD) but at points he can be so dark and sinister, David does this beautifly one of the best examples of this is the doctor burning the master in “The last of the time lords” (correct me if im wrong) and again in the finale with davros in S4 I will miss tennant dearly as he has been the doctor I think of when I think of dr.who, the next guy has some big shoes to fill but good luck to Tennant and Ecilsson in all there works and all the best to the next doctor as well.
January 2nd, 2009 at 7:09 pm
I really wish they’d stop going through doctor’s so fast, I only just get a chance to get attached and then their gone!
I believe its time for a female doctor. If they don’t have the guts to do it now how many more decades will we have to wait? And maybe a female actor will need the work badly enough to bother keeping the bloody role! Looking with dread towards the new season, a new companion. Note - I am just praying we avoid someone who is stupid, whiny or up themselves. Relieved Rose is gone again, she drove me up the wall. Sorry to see Donna go as I had just learnt to tolerate her obnoxious yapping. Writers need a bit more balance, the female characters in this version have sucked.

THE NEXT DOCTOR IS MATT SMITH! IT WAS ON DR WHO CONFEDENTIAL TODAY, 3RD JAN 2009 AT 17:30 (or 17:40)!!!!!!
January 3rd, 2009 at 3:50 pm
[…] leaving the show at the end of the limited run of Series/Season 5, then I can no longer help you! It’s been common knowledge now for a couple of months, so I can’t consider it a […]
January 3rd, 2009 at 7:56 pm
I have a thought. How are they going to work in River Song(Silence in the library)? In this episode River seems to know the doctor as David Tennant.
January 3rd, 2009 at 8:05 pm
One more thing. After this next regeneration would Matt Smith be concidered the 12th doctor? The doctor only has 13 regenerations and he did use one at the end of the 4th season even though he did’nt change.
January 5th, 2009 at 4:40 am
lets hope that matt smith will be another turning point in the evolution of doctor who. he has started to get a lot more mellow from ecilsson to tennant(not as angry) they could realy go a long way with turning the doctor into something very different. a young and cocky doctor would be cool. very full of himself and ignoring his flaws and getting into some realy sticky situations, using his companions more and more to get out of trouble. opening the way for more companion based stories not just doctor based ones. lets also hope he gets away from earth more at least out of bloody london.
January 9th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS!
January 11th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
hey, just asking… are they bring jenny back into this? you know, the 1 from THE DOCTOR”S DAUGHTER? that 1? is she the next doctor? or is she the next companion? i don’t know. but i think it would be interesting, i mean, with 2 TIME LORDS NOW!!!!!!!
January 12th, 2009 at 6:32 am
Ok people here is the score:
You absolutely can not try to marry up all story arcs, threads, rules and established history of doctor who – It is quite simply not possible. The nature of the way the show has been handled over the years prohibits this. Each new producer / writer didn’t take the time to know the show inside out and respect what had been previously laid down.
Personally I can live with this as it means the show can evolve without constraint. As for the Davies incarnation of the show, there are several things I disagree with – for one thing, the ridiculous-pacifist 10th doctor. I mean seriously, does Davies really think that violence and hate can always be defeated by a quick tongue and a pair of 3d glasses?? Grow up!
Personally I loved David Tenants take on the doctor and what some people need to realise is this: this is a show made for 21st centaury children and a straight talking grouchy white haired old man in serious, educational largely humourless episodes quite simply won’t cut it. As I’ve said I don’t agree with all of the decisions Russell T Davies has made but lets not beat about the bush, under Russell, Doctor who – previously Star Trek’s whipping boy is now the undisputed king of Saturday night programming and this alone is enough for me to thank him, Christopher Ecclestong (Fantastic!) and David Tennant (Amazing!).
Which brings me to Steven Moffatt? Although I would love to see a series 5 full of: Silence in the Library, Gass Masks, physiological terror courtesy of statues that come to life etc. I feel that if he strays to far from what Russell has laid down then we might be in trouble if the kids – particularly younger kids and their parents switch off then what will we have on a Saturday night?
And finally Matt smith, all I have to say is good luck….and My God, what Steven Moffatt said about knowing instantly that this man was the 11th doctor!!! When he stared into the camera for the final shot of the confidential special I had goose bumps – William Hartnell – to David Tennat staring right at me….trust me people, it’ll be fine
January 14th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I’m in my early teens and i was first introduced to doctor who when Christopher Eccleston was the doctor and i thought he was brilliant. I did see some episodes of doctor who when tom baker was the doc and to be onest i thought he was better. But when i saw Eccleston’s last apearance as the doctor and saw who he regenerated in to, well i felt sad at first but when i saw more episodes with the tenth dotor i thought he was better than Eccleston’s and if i had to choose between Eccleston, tennant or tom baker as my favorite doctor i’d choose tennant. I’ll be sorry to see him go. But the doctor’s gotta regenerate some time doesn’t he. i think tennant brought a very human side to the doc, showing his inner demons and letting his guard down emotionally while also showing a ruthless, cold side. his past hardened him and i think david tennant brought that out more than any of the other docs.because of all he’s seen and had to do, he had to have a sense of humour otherwise he’d fall in a heap and cry! tennant portrayed this better than the others. matt smith was in ruby in the smoke (with billie piper!) and was brilliant. i think he’ll do the doc justice.

You couldn’t be more wrong. They can have a character who is serious as well as funny. Both the Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston Doctors are excellent examples of this. I found the current Dortor lacking and a bit childish. The whole pacifist thing was/is irritating. Those episodes made it feel way too preachy.
January 16th, 2009 at 8:06 am
will we see k-9 in comming up episodes?
January 17th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
ok honestly… i think it was tennants time to go.. i mean he was amazing as a doctor, actually he’s my favorite so far. But, after billie piper left, i was pissed, and without her… well it just isn’t right, they did need another chick with him untill he left so you’d figure out how he felt without her, but really, i never liked the last lady she really wasn’t one of the doctors companians that i prefered.. i at first didn’t like matt smith when i first saw a pic of him in the movie with billie piper. He looke like a dork. but when i saw him in a clip of how he felt about taking on the role and such, well, i saw he’ll be perfect. If you really pay attention on just how he’s acting right there you know that he’s ready. I can’t wait to see him next year,
January 17th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
no one can do the part better than David he was the perfect person for the doctor if this decision was somebody other than david im gonna go pistol whip them in the face for their stupidity
January 17th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
also i dont care if any one can read my last post besides the moderator some has to know my rage
January 17th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
the new doctor, Matt Smith, doesnt look worthy of being the doctor like he
January 18th, 2009 at 3:37 am
Yes, my name is Jenny. I am OFFCIALLY the Doctor’s Daughter! WOOTNESS!
Well DUH. Course he was going to leave…though it does break many peoples hearts. Mine personally….Yes he’s hot. Yes he was a good doctor. We got 3 whole seasons and a bit out of him….but he’s not Christopher Eccleston. C.E. is the bomb!!
But anyway, it’ll be sad to see him go, and i can’t wait to see the new guy.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
I don’t know, Matt Smith could be good, he did a good job acting in the Sally Lockhart Series. That was the one that he did along with Billie Piper. I am anxious to see where Smith goes with this role. Also, it’ll be funny because he’ll still introduce himself as John Smith (same last name, lol, and there goes my pretending to be older than I am).
January 24th, 2009 at 2:25 am
I just wanted to say that David Tennant was brilliant as the Tenth Doctor and that I will be really sad to see him go. It’s going to be hard to get used to a new Doctor but knowing Doctor Who as I do the show can only get better and better.
January 25th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Greetings from the Antipidies
Finally I have found a place where I can talk about Dr Who - and my family doesn’t look at me strangely.
Questions I would like answered:
Where is the Dr’s (Tennant’s) Daughter, what adventures is she having across the universe, and is it possible for the tardis to home in on her as she share’s the Time Lord’s DNA.?
Is it truely possible for Donna Noble to be a human again, even though her memory is erased, physically her body and brain could be part timelord. (Donna was so over the top, bolshey, fun, and often overacted - she was BRILLAINT - I cried at the end of season four)?
All the conjecture about having a Female Dr Who - would she be a timelady rather than a timelord
January 26th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Matt Smith is the new doctor and Trey your right he dosent seem worthy enough and “danny” you’ve made a lot of faults 1. Timelords and Gallifrey were destroyed 2. Captin Jack Came From Earth 3. One of the 2009 episodes is going to be an Easter special called “Planet of the dead” with a special guest star of a woman of East Enders and to you “time meddeler” K-9 stays with Sarah so if you want to see him watch the “Sarah Jane Adventures” on Mondays At 4:15 or 4:30 also to” lopo 123″ I would also like to see Jenny to Come Back and one last thing when the doctor regenarates to be Matt Smith Where is proffesor river song Out of “Silence in the libary” and “forest of the dead” she must be a companion some how:-/ Hope this has been helpful:-D
January 26th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
That’s not informative at all I learned more just by Reading the opinions especially Dannys and Doctor who 27! And it is so matt smith and prof. Song:-D
January 27th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
David Tennent is so the best Doctor and Rose or Martha or Donna Or Sarah Jane Smith is the best companion although I know all the ladys will like- Captin Jack Harkness-@-/—- I personally think that everyone here is like in a sort of chat room like I’ve got 3 different names here “monster mouth”& “Doctor who 27″ I don’t even come here for the “massive spoiler” I come to see if I can help anyone with any questions so if you are needing a question answered leave it after this messege and adress it like this : Doctor Who 27, e.g When is the new series going to start ? thank you and please leave some questions and check out my other messeges
January 27th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Dear wee lamb, I have studied your questions and my answers are 1. Jenny took a rocket to explore the universe so she could be back but she did seem to like danger so she did belong to the doctor but imagine what danger she might of got into and who would save her…. 2. The adventures she is having is unknown even to russel t daves but there might be a new book coming out soon about jenny so watch out for it 3. The doctor remember thought she was dead so he probably still does but even if he did know about her he might not even thought of that your really smart aren’t you 4. Although Donna’s mind was earased you might be right her body was not changed and also when she got the regeneration power of the hand that means she is going to regenerate which will give her back time lord memories so she will burn up…:-(5. The Time lords is a name of the gallifrien species just like humans and If you might not know there was a female time lord called Romana and she was still called time lord and one last thing about the female timelord Dawn French was concidered as doctor who and can I just say you are very smart well done and thank you for the questions

Dear Emma it is highly unlikly because the doctor has to choose wether to regenerate like the master did not want to regenerate and in turn left he could have regenerated but it was to quick also Matt Smith is the new doctor… Hope this has been helpful

I’m worried…at the start of doctor who and I mean the very first episode ever they said “There will be 12 doctor regenerations only then it will be finished ” I just hope they forget about that …p.s I was not there to see them say that I’m only 10 I did some re-search to find that out)

February 5th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
In all fairness to the fair sex, who says Dr. Who has to be a man?
February 12th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Theyve all been great doctors. Its just that now we have the computer technology to tell the stories we always wanted to without resorting to a man in a pink bear costume.. Matt has ten big pairs of shoes to fill, not just dav or christophers. What about my old mate Tom Baker? Huh? Have we forgotten the bohemian doctor?

I’ ve to say many very good points made here by many people, I have been watching the Doctor for many years. I’m another one who found Tennent to be one of the better doctors, but I do agree that he had to go, you just can’t keep making news stories up for the same actor. Just like the series Hustle, where all of the episodes are nearly the same and it gets boring you have to put change into the show.
Personally I would say that the new guy , Matt Smith, is to young looking to be the doctor. I’ve always seen him as a older, more sensible guy with a childish streak a mile long.
I am also wondering if K-9 will be allowed back into the show, Love him. And how someone is going to come up with a cover the bring the Daleks back into the show, you can’t have doctor who without them. But how can someone explain how they escaped the genicide in Journeys end?
and if your worring about regenerations, the master has already out stayed his, so someone will think of something.
look forward to 2010, and the rest of the specials this year.

March 7th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
you know what guys, SHUT THE HELL UP! a younger dr is what the show needs! (mind you david was pretty young himself)
DT was perfect! anybody who disagrees has a serious mental issue, and anybody who thinks james nesbitt would make a good doctor is just plain ignorant and dumb, if dr who was an old man i would never watch the show again until he regenerated
sorry if i seem angry, well, I AM, i just, for the life of me cant see what kind of moron would think DT was a bad doctor.

the doctor (11th) will be played by matt smith
April 1st, 2009 at 5:54 pm
come on, tennant was pretty much the best thing to happen to doctor who in a very long time. he has the perfect amount of depth, humor, manic and snppy one-liners. and i know that he will live on in doctor who history as possibly the best doctor. (he sure is in my opinion)
April 3rd, 2009 at 4:08 am
ITS MATT SMITH!
April 6th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
David Tennant will still be dctor who in season five says BBC One
April 11th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
ifffff you have to replace David Tennant which be a big mistake….think about Jude Law i think his look fits the doctor….but David is BRILLIANT
April 14th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
MAybe we should have all tried to get the part as the Doctor then everything would be as we wanted it. MWAAHAHAHAAAAAA!
And Remember Don’t Blink!

David Tennant Rules
April 18th, 2009 at 4:20 am
Matt Smith is taking over the role of the doctor after the 4 specials that the amazing david tennant is acting in!!! Matt Smith is 26 and is the youngest doctor ever!!! We have already seen the first fantastic special which was the easter special- there was a few clues in that episode that confirms that the outstanding david tennant is leaving his part as the doctor!!! The next special will be about water and water always wins etc, etc-(the next special looks fab!!!) I will be SOOOOOOOO sad to see david tennant leave and will definetly cry when he exits the show later this year!!!!!!!
April 19th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
umm yeah great spoiler lol
April 29th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
I am very sad to see the smexy David Tennant leave Doctor Who but when i heard he was leaving it made me wonder how they were going to kill him…it’ll have to be the most awesomest death scene moffat has ever written cause i swear if tennant’s doctor dies cause he falls or trips or somethign not dramatic then i’m gonna seriously kill someone…
i saw the easter special and it was hilarious!!! i can’t wait to see the next one..does anyone know when it might be on? any thoughts as to when?
May 6th, 2009 at 2:16 am
I have to admit I am very sad to see Tennant leave. He is the only reason I actually like the show. There is something about him that draws you in. I doubt very much that I will continue to watch the show after he leaves. I did try to watch previous episodes without him in it, but it just was not the same.
May 7th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
NOOOOOO, Tennants gone. He was so epic as a Doctor. Calm collected but bursting of joy. Why did they go from a epic awesome doctor to emo lookin doctor. Sad to see him leaveing still. My mate didn’t believe that he was leaving nor his mum.
May 19th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
I am SO ENTIRELY frustrated that I can’t watch any episodes on bbc.co.uk!!! *flares nostrils in general direction of the Atlantic* Can’t they make an exception for Who fans?!?

Agh…. Has anyone seen Matt’s hair? It’s… erm… well I don’t know how to describe it, so have a looksy for yourselves: http://gnostalgia.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/matt-smith-as-doctor-who-001.jpg
Uhmm, any help? How would you desribe the hair? I think the sort of half smirk is kind of funny, and very doctor-ish. I dunno, maybe Matt will be a good Doctor. I don’t think he’ll ever live up to David’s version though. I will miss his constont banter and 90 mile speach, but we all knew he wouldn’t be here forever.
Oh and to Sarah….

How can you guys pass comment on Matt Smith’s version of the Doctor before he has even started filming?
May 31st, 2009 at 2:42 am
I have heard a rumor that the reason Dave left the show is becuase he got signed to be the Riddler in the next Dark Knight film! Oh and the picked the new companion…
