Bid on a book autographed by Randi!

Signed copy of a book by Darwin

During the 10-day long voyage to the Galapagos Islands in August sponsored by the James Randi Educational Foundation, we took along a copy of The Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle, Darwin’s diary of his ground-breaking trip 150 years ago. Some smart cookie asked all of us to sign the book, and now that autographed copy is being auctioned! It has signatures by Randi, me, PZ Myers, George Hrab, and a whole lot more. The auction winner will also get a signed photo of Randi posing next to a Galapagos tortoise.

This is a pretty cool auction, and the proceeds will go toward a scholarship to help people attend the premier critical thinking conference The Amaz!ng Meeting 7, which will be in Las Vegas on July 9-12, 2009. We’re working on the speaker line-up and it’s already looking, well, amazing. So bid on the book and help some deserving person attend the meeting!

Good cause. This will undoubtedly go for a lot more than I can afford, but I’ll toss in a bid to see what happens.

Oh, how about a direct link to the actual auction? http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=129087

Hmm. I’m overdue for a Vegas trip.

Seriously, though, lose the “!” in Amaz!ng. Oy vey!

To some of us old timers it reads as amaz-bang-ng. :-)

    I can read these names:
James Randi (what a great hand he has!)
    Philip Plait
    George Hrab
    Gina Hogg
    Joe Wagg
    Harriett Hall (The SkepDoc)
    Simon Wagg
    Jeff Wagg
    Maybell Deutch
    Susan Hurst (?)
    Ellen Buff
    Chip Taylor (?)
    Glenn Mellosky (?)
    David Peters (?)
    Linda Shellenberger (?)

Then there are lots of names I can’t quite read:
    Wendy & J.C. Hreboucak ? Lane D. Henry ? Melissa K???
Marcella Letteri ? David J. Hiklam ?? Fred Brenner ?
Katherine de Barricta ? Robert J. Wright ?
    Jan Wolichi ? Michael Jobham ? Cheryl Cobeni-Bruine ?

My own signature is utterly unreadable (and unfortunately not in this book). You might think that would help in deciphering these, but nooooooo!
    :-)
I’d like to get it, but my wife’d have to kill me, then pay for my funeral…
    Costly stuff that!

Linda Shellenberger works for the JREF.

My signature’s about 2/3 down on the right. That adds about $.00001 to the total value of this.

My bid’s in on the forum.

The skepchick with the nickname Boo was the one who brought along the book and donated it to be auctioned!

A big thanks to her. Randi will also personalize the photograph to the winner if they would like. Wonderful photograph by Scott Hurst.
