The James Randi Educational Foundation recently got yet another passel of my books to sell on the JREF online store. Like before, these will have JREF stickers in them that I have signed, so it’s a chance to get an autographed book the easy way.
But wait! There’s more! If you buy a book now, while supplies last, you’ll get a free JREF tote bag. Think of it as an extra large stocking, pre-stuffed.

arrrgh! the pain of being an early-adopter (or early-book-buyer, in this case)
December 10th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
I really wish you would have told us about stuff like this before we pre-ordered.
December 10th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
Because I want the JREF to receive as much money as possible, and because I already have a bunch of tote bags that I never use, I won’t be bitter over having received my copy of “DFTS” only 2 days ago. At least, not too bitter ; ).

Oh great! Freebies after I’ve already paid for and finished reading the book. I did buy it on eBay, however, so I didn’t pay full ticket – not that I wouldn’t have of course! I’m giving Death to my local high school library (as I did with your first and as I do with all the books I finish reading – except the ones I want to read again sometime – LOTR, Tales of Sherlock Holmes, some sci-fi stuff, etc.).
My compliments: I thoroughly enjoyed the book; it is certainly fascinating and presents factual stuff in a most readable and entertaining fashion. I envy your facile and uncomplicated ability to write in such an erudite fashion. I have to struggle for every sentence, it seems. Anyhow, I look forward with eager anticipation to the next opus from you, BA.
(An aside: how can I get the JREF to come back to my e-mail like the BA blog? JREF disappeared about two months ago and I can’t seem to find out how to resubscribe.)

Daww, my copy just arrived on Monday, and now this.
Oh wait, I already have a big purse-like bag. Never mind! Great read so far, Phil.
December 10th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
If I’d only waited…
But I just couldn’t overcome the urge to buy the book straight away.
December 10th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Pre-stuffed… with Death From The Skies!!!
December 10th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
I can’t select a shipping method
. Also, it says it can’t be shipped via USPS, as the package weighs “over 70lbs”. Must be a huge book!
(sent an email to the webmaster; hopefully something can be done)
December 10th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
lol, pimpin ain’t easy.
December 10th, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Maybe if I hold out on buying it long enough, I can also get a copy of Bad Astronomy?

Oh, god, now I can’t help but see Phil repeating “Buy my book, buy my book!” over and over in the manner of a Jay Sherman cardboard stand-up.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
I bought your book but I am in the UK and never got a bag
December 10th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
No comments yet on Steven Chu? A real scientist for DoE. Should be good stuff.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
HA! I get to reap the benefits of procrastinating! Free tote for me.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Well, I purchased it from the link you posted. It didn’t say anything about a bag on that page though, so I’m thinking that I might not get one. Oh well.
December 10th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Ordered! Er, that is, I understand that the kids have purchased my Christmas present tonight.
gopher65, you have to go to the store page to add the tote bag and also type in a coupon code to get it for free.
I wonder how long the signed copies lasted this time.
December 10th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Good one, Davidlpf. Have you posted this on BAUT, yet?
I’m sincerely surprised Gillianren hasn’t detected your “grammer” yet, though.
December 10th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
No but in couple of hours whe I get home I will post it and probably change ti spelling of grammer to grammar.
December 11th, 2008 at 12:45 am
I’m with Rob P.
Come on Phil, Obama is naming an actual flesh-and-blood scientist to head DOE, and you are sitting here pimping your book and drooling over flying saucer models?
December 11th, 2008 at 4:49 am
Just ordered, but it didn’t say anything about the copies being autographed. Crossing my fingers.
Steven Chu head of DOE: O M FSM is right – an actual physicist who’s specializing in energy, instead of a political appointee. Obama hasn’t even taken office yet, and already things are looking up.
December 11th, 2008 at 4:49 am
I’m the books associate at a local entertainment store. I never saw your book hit the shelves here so I’m ordering a few in.
Love your blog, can’t wait to see your book.
December 11th, 2008 at 6:42 am
I want my money to go to JREF, but when I try to order the site insists I tell it the type of credit card I have and then refuses to give me a field to select my credit card type. This flaw is why I haven’t already ordered one.
December 11th, 2008 at 7:06 am
Oh my FSM! I really want this book (And the tote bag!), the book with shipping plus the exchange rate of Dollars to Reais will be 87 Reais! I guess I will have to wait for the exchange rate to drop or something… I cannot expend 87 Reais now.
(But I really want this book!)

Awww man!!!
December 11th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Want to order the book but the site is not secure
(any page that asks for a credit card # should have an ssl cert). This really bugs me as a web developer who has developed online stores in the past.

Phil- Just FYI- for us youngish dudes out on the urban coffee/bar scene it’s kind of cool to have your book in tow on a Weds afternoon. It’s a conversation starter (or “piece” as they say in NYC). Buy the Latte, saddle up to the high-top with a book that has a blazing large glob of fusioning gas on it- The ladies like it (not all, but yeah, some- well, most no, but there have been 4. Well, 2 really if I’m honest- but still….).
Do you know what is really not cool in any way? Showing up to said high-top coffee stool with a ManPurse around the arm. I like science geeks. I respect science geeks for what they do. But please, for the love of all science geeks that want to ascend to the level of not getting wedgies for their lunch money- stop sending them tote blue ManPurses with their cool new science books!
December 11th, 2008 at 8:39 am
John G: Cool, thanks!
Cheyenne: Well, don’t use the tote bag then! No one is forcing you to carry it. For those who want one, the option is there. They’re very useful on short trips or beach visits.
Mike and others: I’ll send a note to the IT guy about that. Thanks for letting me know.
December 11th, 2008 at 8:55 am
I was really just kidding Phil. Your book and website are awesome. I actually bought a copy of your book for my brother for his birthday and one for another science minded friend for a Christmas stocking stuffer.
Now, please get back to work writing your next one! (we are a demanding bunch us BABloggees)
.

Missed getting the bag by that much…
