I had a college friend who maintained that the best thing to do on a tough exam was stop writing the answer to a question in midword to make the professor think that you knew what you were doing but just ran out of time. Your blog post was just as convincing.

Oh, that is *so* bad. “meteorologist” eh? Was that supposed to be a meteor*ite* he was talking to? Not to mention meteorologists study weather – ‘micrometeors’ like rain and hail – the name ‘micrometeor’ is pretty weird in its own right because meteors from space (which are not studied by meteorologists) *are* very small and thus burn up before reaching the ground.

One of my all-time favorite science cartoonists is Sid Harris (is he still around?) Every time I see some brochure or new article with the word ‘resaerch’ or similiar misspelling of research I’m immediately reminded of that Sid Harris cartoon with this guy saying “I think I’ve figured out why we’re not getting any grants”; in the window behind him was a large sign on a building that read something like “resaerch institute”.
