Yes there was a horribly dressed CPT America. He had a different outfit for every scene. I've got to wonder where he kept them all.

http://captain-america.us/movie.htm

I just noticed there's a tiny little pilot flying the intercepter.

The Saturday morning picture (http://dusty-abell.deviantart.com/art/Sat-Morning-Action-Adv-TV-83825680) is great. Are Dyna-woman and Isis a little chilly?

My wife and I have been working our way through both UFO and Space: 1999 on DVD, and they both hold up better than we had expected.

I recall watching David McCallum's Invisible Man as a kid, and enjoying each episode immensely. I completely bought his life, his family, and his research situation. I was heartbroken when he self-destructed the beam generator in the pilot episode, knowing that he was dooming himself to permanent invisibility. It all felt completely real, believable, and an original take on a classic idea.

I also recall watching Ben Murphy's Gemini Man as a kid, and feeling robbed. Somehow as a kid I could immediately accept Daniel Westin's mask transformations (in spite of the sometimes poor visual effects) but Sam Casey's stabilizer watch just felt like a cheap gimmick. I was deeply shocked at how many episodes ware thinly-rewritten reworkings of previously-aired Bionic Woman episodes. I kept waiting for Oscar Goldman to show up. It was my first lesson in Hollywood script recycling, and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth after all these decades.

Sigh, it's a shame that David McCallum's Invisible Man episodes aren't available on DVD. Now I want to rewatch *them* to see how well they hold up!

Don't feel bad about mistaking Space 1999 with UFO... they were after all created by the same producer, the Andersons. Some even believe they share a continuity, with the small moonbase of UFO becoming the big one of 1999.

These were all TV shows from that time frame. Yes, some of them were movies first (e.g. Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes).

The woman with the knife in front of the TARDIS was Leela. That was the Doctor's companion at that time.

The guy in the brown jacket is David McCallum as the Invisible Man. He also played in the 60s show, "The Man fron U.N.C.L.E".

It also seems that they were all live-action shows, which has me wondering about that Blue/Red ship on the left being from "Battle of the Planets". Any other possibilities ?

There was a really, really bad Captain America movie where he was dressed as pictured. His red/clear shield mounted as a windshield on the front of his motor cycle <shudder>

OK, Dusty Abell got Saturday morning covered.

http://dusty-abell.deviantart.com/art/Sat-Morning-Action-Adv-TV-83825680

But there's a whole other can o' worms here:

"Short of V, there weren’t anywhere near the amount of memorable sci-fi/superhero shows in the 80’s that there were in the 1970’s. Just my opinion!"

Off the top of my head...
The Powers of Matthew Star
Automan
Manimal
Knight Rider / Airwolf / Street Hawk
Captain Power & the Soldiers of the Future
Starman (TV series)
Quantum Leap
Alien Nation
War of the Worlds
...and of course, V

Nothing much to add here that hasn't already been covered. What a fun trip, but boy, am I feeling my age, since I recognized everything in the picture. (I surprised myself with the relization that I watched most of that stuff when it was first run!)

Since you all commented so thoroughly on the foreground characters and ships, let me just say that is an awesome backdrop image, too.

@Davein England:
Yes, I remember Ben Murphy as the Gemini Man, the guy with the invisifying wristwatch. IIRC, after the David MacCallum vehicle "The Invisible Man" flopped Stateside, the producers had another crack at an invisible superhero, and created the Gemini Man. That too, however, only lasted one season. Apparently, invisible heroes are more popular on the European side of the Pond.

The lack of "Blake's Seven" is the yawning chasm in a picture dominated by "Battlestar Galactica". Doesn't anyone else remember the "Gemini Man" (Ben Murphy, first aired in 1976)?

@ Everyone... I apologize from the bottom of my space boots that I incorrectly said that S.I.D. was from Space:1999. I <b>know</b> it's from UFO. I just had a synapse misfire as I typed. :)

@ Bill... You know you can get the <b>entire series</b> of UFO (and Space:1999) on DVD.

UFO!

I'd almost completely forgotten about that show, and I LOVED it as a kid! I wanted to be an Interceptor pilot so badly it hurt!

Having said that, though, isn't there just the tiniest bit of silliness in a ship designed to fly a potentially long distance to it's target, fire ONE missile, then, hit or miss, fly back home 'cause you only get one shot?

I mean, from a strategic standpoint, this is just dumb. If your fleet is outnumbered against an enemy fleet, you lose. By definition. Even if your pilots have a 100% hit rate, you leave enemies alive and you're outta ammo.
