KABLAM!!! Woohoo!! »

My speaking schedule for April

On Twitter I got a lot of requests for my schedule over the next few days, as I travel to Calgary, New York, and Connecticut to give talks. Here y’all go:

1) Thursday, April 16: I’m in Calgary, Alberta on April 16 to give the Peter Sim Memorial Lecture for the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. The talk is based on my book Death from the Skies! I’m giving my Bad Astronomy talk, and there’s no charge for admission. I hear the low will be around -8, so pack an extra toque.

2) Saturday, April 18: In Amherst, New York I’ll give the DftS! talk at the Center for Inquiry, a skeptic group similar to JREF. That’s $10 for general admission and $5 for students. It’s for a good cause: thinking!

3) Sunday, April 19: An honest-to-FSM wine and hors d’oeuvres reception with the NYC skeptics will unfold at 7:00 p.m. It’s RSVP only, and I hear it’s sold out. However, if you offer them a huge pile of money, they may let you in. Special note: I may wear a tie.

4) Monday, April 20: Start spreading the news. I’m staying in NYC to deal more Death at the Hayden Planetarium, which is very cool. I spoke there once before a few years ago and had a great time. Plus Neil Tyson is so busy being on Colbert and such that I rarely get to see him anymore.

5) Tuesday, April 21: I’m driving a rental from NYC to New Haven Connecticut to give my Bad Astronomy talk at Yale University. I’ve never been there, and I have several friends there, so I’m looking forward to this.

I’m hoping to see a bunch of BABloggees there!

Damn, I wish I still lived in New Haven. Be sure to stop at Willoughby’s on Church St. for some damn fine coffee.

I want to attend the Calgary talk but it is sadly the night before a final. I had seen you were coming a couple of weeks ago and was really excited until I realized the problem timing. Hopefully I will get another chance in the future. Good luck.

    -8? That’s T-shirt weather around here!

Hmmm… I don’t see the Twin Cities on there anywhere…

I also notice a distinct lack of trips to the “Panhandle” of Florida! :(

Shucks… I live about a 10 minute WALK from the CFI in Amherst NY. I’d love to come and hear you speak, but I have a Buffalo Bandits game on Saturday at 7pm.

    Poop. :)

It lloks like you are ging to be all tied up for a while.

Hey Phil, when are you and Arlee Petters going to give a talk at Duke down in NC?

Some of us are not blessed enough to be living in the Tri-State area.

I’m going to try to come out to Buffalo on the 18th. I’m only an hour or so away in Rochester. BTW, on your way through you should grab a Garbage Plate.

Texas seems to always be under represented in cool people’s travel/speaking plans. Bogus.

    See you on Thurdday

-8 degree C, where are you putting that extra toque? More like -4 degree C

    April 15th, 2009 at 6:49 am

Will you be available to sign a book at the Planetarium?

  14. 14.   Ray Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 6:55 am

    -8?

You really need to schedule better. Its in the 70′s in the Southern USA. Save those Canada trips for July when the snow melts.

  15. 15.   Ray Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 6:57 am

    scotth,

Maybe that’s why Texas has so many creationists; they never get speakers of the truth down there.

  16. 16.   Todd W. Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 7:02 am

    @Steve Ulven

The Twin Cities is where Phil’s archnemesis (no, not Colbert, the other one…the one with tentacles) lives.

  17. 17.   ccpetersen Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 7:12 am

Hey, we’re only a couple of hours north of Yale… you wanna come up and help us pack? ;)

    ;)

Watch out for the potholes on 95. You might wanna take the Merritt Parkway == fewer potholes.

  18. 18.   Grizzly Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 7:41 am

Shoot. Give us more lead time than that, will ya? I already have plans for Thursday night.

And you don’t need a toque.

  19. 19.   Patthews Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 8:04 am

AHHHHH! Death from the SKIS! I really wish I could attend, I live walking distance away from the CFI in Amherst, NY and I’d love to see this presentation, but it’s my best friend’s wedding in DC this Saturday! How come you can predict all the ways the world will end but not my schedule?

  20. 20.   Harry Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 8:34 am

A while ago you were supposed to talk at the the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and it was a no show.

    What happened with that?

Do you have any talks planned in the Denver/Boulder area?

  21. 21.   Calamity Janeway Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 9:51 am

When are you coming to NorCal? Maybe you could do something at Chabot observatory?? Being selfish–short drive for me :)

  22. 22.   Jill Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

I am very very sad..I won’t be able to make the drive to Calgary to see your talk tomorrow. I guess the downside of owning my own business is that I’m my only employee!! I was really looking forward to it! ARGH! Any chance of another lecture tour coming through western Canada in the near future? Please?

  23. 23.   Elliot Says:
    April 15th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

I wish I could be at the Buffalo one, but I’m out of the country on a study abroad. I’m definitely letting my friends know, though.

While you’re in Buffalo, be sure to grab some Beef on Weck and some Buffalo Wings.

  24. 24.   supercorgi Says:

Hey, is the Peabody talk open to the general public? Do I have to buy a ticket (couldn’t find the info on the museum’s website). I did graduate work at Yale and my mom lives right near there. I’d love to come down and hear Phil speak!

  25. 25.   bnroberts Says:
    April 16th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Looking forward to seeing you at the Hayden. And I’ve been spreading the word….bringing some of my labmates along!

  26. 26.   Lee Nilsson Says:
    April 16th, 2009 at 9:49 pm

    Two words: Detroit Michigan.

  27. 27.   James Says:
    April 18th, 2009 at 11:18 am

I will definitely be there on Tuesday.

@supercorgi: The last talk I went to at the Peabody didn’t require a ticket even though the lecture hall was off of the hall of minerals. Plus, local libraries have season passes you can check out.
